A review I did of a lousy Sonic The Hedgehog LCD game.

I've been wanting to make this video since last month, but I never got to until the night before last, and I uploaded it the following night:

It's gotten some good feedback so far, but when I posted it at forum.ashens.com, there's already two people talking about how weird my voice sounds. One person said I sound like a scurvy pirate, and another said I sound like a rape victim trying to disguise my voice on an episode of Crime Watch. As if it isn't bad enough I hate how my voice sounds when it's recorded or filmed, certain people just HAVE to rub it in for me and make it worse. And another person said quote "There's not many places you can go to where you can get called a raped pirate." like it's good to be called that or something. Letitallout Ugh....At least I don't have to worry about hearing those kinds of comments here...at least that's what I'd like to think. Anyway, I bought this thing for $15 dollars as I said in the video, and it also didn't come with instructions like I said in the video, because I bought it used. I tried to make it look good.

Personally, I thought at times you sounded a little like Kermit the Frog - and I know how hard it is being green... Wink1

Actually, within seconds I realised the position you were in - bending over a camera talking while playing - I would ignore what the people said because I don't think I could have handled doing all that and sound coherent at the same time!

I do know what you mean about how you feel about hearing your voice. I answer the phone at work and then have to call the right people over the PA system to pick it up. At anyone time there's a good fifty people hearing my dulcet tones amplified to the umpteenth degree... Including myself! If that's not cringe worthy I don't know what is!

I sound like a complete doofus when I'm recorded. I loathe all my answering machine messages. It's usually a case of 'Do I sound less stupid in this one?' as a criterion for selection.

Arg . . . I get nervous whenever I make a recording or have to speak to people I don't know very well, and the more nervous I get, the weirder the outcome. The most common syndrome is "Random Accent Assortment." I never know what the heck is going to come out of my mouth. If I had to do anything involving a PA system, what a mess that could be! Sweating

Almost everyone hates the sound of their own voice when recorded, it has to do with the perception of what you think your voice sounds like. When you hear it normally (unrecorded) you are hearing it through your skull not through your ears. So when you hear it recorded it sounds like it lacks tone. Plus if you're concentrating on speaking about something the stress comes out in your voice and increases the pitch of your speach a little.
Everyone gets that more or less.

I thought it was a good impression of a raped pirate no matter what the critics say.

I don't know about 'Random Accent Assortment' but I lower my voice so I can keep it steady and it doesn't get all squeeky.

Yep, I end up sounding like a porn star...

Is it any wonder I get the job of calling the IT desk when anything goes wrong? On the upside, techs turn up within an hour of being called...

No, I sound like a doofus. The folks from IT would probably think, 'There's the idiot again,' rather than, 'She sounds hawt.'

I do know that my manager has taken bets on how long we have to wait for them to arrive though... It all started when he heard one of my phonecalls.

Manager: "What the h*ll were you talking about?"

Me: "Oh, the IT guy asked how my day was going. I just explained that the safe needed a little encouragement to open for me this morning. You know - 'come on, baby. Do it for me, that's my boy. There you go, that's it... Ahh, sweet thing - you're amazing!'"

Manager: "Uh huh. And you were telling the IT guy everything you said to the safe?"

Me: "Yup."

Manager: "What priority did the IT guy give our problem?"

Me: "The usual - One."

Manager: "The usual in any other store is a Four!"

The problem is that I develop verbal diarrhea when talking to people I don't know over the phone - I don't actually mean to do it! An innocent question like 'how's your day been?' becomes a minefield...
