What happened to the puppy?

In Gatchaman and G-Force, Joe/Dirk nearly got himself killed saving a puppy... whatever happened to it? After all of that trouble, where did it go?

Maybe it grew up and was mutated into a St. Bernard.... or maybe Jinpei took it to live with him, or more likely, Dr. Nambu. What do *you* think happened to the puppy?

I was always under the impression that Nambu more than likely gave the puppy to one of the researchers at Coral Crescent...

Oh no - Joe saved the puppy only for it to be turned into a cyborg?

I dare say the power of flying by tail made up for it, in dog terms, anyway.

Maybe he gave it to Mekker's lonely mother? Joe seemed quite fond of her (bringing her flowers, giving her backrubs...)

I love the idea of Joe adoring the puppy in secret. I'm sure they were cuddle buddies at night.

The mother dog has more the look of a greyhound cross.

Puppies can be high maintenance. But perhaps a worker on Crescent Base or somesuch adopted the dog and let Joe visit when he wanted.

They must have, because it is seen sitting in Dr. Nambu's lap at the end of the episode, when he contacts the God Phoenix.

I imagine that Joe didn't keep the puppy himself (considering his lifestyle, I'm not sure he'd easily be able to take care of a dog), but that he arranged a situation where he'd still be able to see it frequently. Maybe it lives at the Crescent Coral Base, as sort of a mascot, and the scientists and technicians there take care of it.

Maybe I think this because my boss brings his cat to work with him every day. He went away for ten days this spring and his cat stayed at the office, cared for by the rest of the staff.

The dog is adopted by both the gunner and a cadre of fellow soldiers who raise her at a wardog training kennel, where she later exhibits an extraordinary aptitude at explosives detection. She develops into one of the best "land-sharks" ever and spends her time working with a young lieutenant handler when the gunner himself is on duty, and goes home with him when he's off. The commander of G-Force remains wholly unamused by the circumstances of the dog's acquisition until she sniffs out a fuel leak in his Cessna, whereupon he becomes only marginally unamused.
