I reckon the hairs are equivalent to whiskers, since it has no eyes. And water creatures that evolve in such pale colours often do it because they live in dark places, which fits in with the lack of eyes and possession of sensory hairs. So I think evolution covers this one Happy

It's nice to think of it being a Galactor novelty though, kind of like a moving plushie with snappy claws. Something to hand to potential rivals at parties and see how they react.
