Every Thursday, Turner Classic Movies is showcasing a few of Miyazaki's films. Right now I'm watching Laputa. Nausicaa just finished. Next week is My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Rosso, and Whisper of the Heart. Week after (26th) is Pom Poko and Only Yesterday. And now, back to watching Laputa! Yay!

The channel seems to show the same things universally. I didn't know I even got it until I saw Nausicaa on the schedule bar and prayed as hard as I could as I turned to the channel.

Pom Poko is the one with the raccoons. I've never seen it, though. I haven't seen a lot of his works, though I've wanted to. I think it's great that the movies are finally being shown here! Maybe they'll rerelease some of them and put the others out as well (unedited, even!).

There was a flurry of Miyazaki dvd releases in the UK last year (or maybe the year before, since now that I am growing older I am unable to keep track of time Wink ). Having done a bit of hunting around, I've found that FilmFour is doing the Miyazaki season honours in the uk.

I don't have that channel either. Never mind. One day they'll be on again and I'll have time to watch them.

The filmfour website has synopses of the movies, and this particular bit about Pom Poko had me raising my eyebrows and a bit of a smirk

BBC4 is showing Asian movies, mostly Japanese films during the week. The 2nd movie I saw last night was about gay samurais. Bit unusal and different but quite good.

Isnt there a new anime channel on the skybox nowadays? I know Film4 are showing a lot of decent anime films, Princess Mononoke for one.

Filmfour are having a Miyazaki season. Toonami, when it started, was showing mostly anime and was in the group of channels aimed at family entertainment rather than kids' shows. Now it's in the kids block and has changed its programming to be somewhat more youthful.

I saw a bit of the gay samurai movie too - Gohatto, I think it was called. Having done a bit of review searching afterwards and finding something It made me realise that maybe the seme/uke thing is more deeply culturally rooted (as nenja/washuku) than just splitting the boys up into men and girl substitutes.

There's a station called Anime Network that's available sporadically across the States. In some areas it's available 24/7, others it's available via Video On Demand.

I'd always gotten the impression that the seme/uke thing was cultural.

I actually thought when I first saw the young lad that was being the story was centred around was a girl because he had feminie face and the hair that wasn't cut.

Strangely enough, my supervisor at work was told that he was metrosexual which meant that he looked gay, espeically with his hairstyle

I have enjoyed watching the Asian films on BBC4, espeically the Japanese films. I have just watched Fulltime Killer, which was quite good. It was about a young Chinese assasin trying to be the the No 1 assasin by trying to kill the Japanese who was at the best.
