I'm thinking we'll need a proper section for the movie if and when it comes out (or we know something for sure)...
I agree. If Imagi does manage to pull itself together and produce this film, it would be good to have a proper section to discuss it. The same goes for the live-action film by Nikkatsu, should that ever move out of its current state of limbo. And let's not forget, Gatchaman has already had three appearances in movie theaters in the past! So, yeah, a section for those would probably not be a bad idea.
You've posted some great pictures, Fang! Thank you!
As for the movie... if they'd announce a director and a screenwriter I'd feel happier... but if Felix Ip says they're working on it, then that's good news.
About those other appearances: any threads about them? Are the movies anywhere on-line? (I only know about them through the article in Wikipedia.)
Not that I'm aware of. They tend to be fairly well ignored by many fans, probably due to a general lack of availability.
The feature film was released on DVD in Japan, and was also released in France and Belgium with a French language dub/sub and Dutch subtitles. It has also had a release in Hong Kong with Chinese subtitles. If it's available online, I haven't seen it, but since I have the DVDs, it's not as though I've been looking for it.
The Toho Champion Festival films haven't been seen since 1973 that I'm aware of. But, since those are essentially identical to the TV versions of those stories, it's not like we're missing much.

Hi guys. Sad to break this news to all of you, but I don't think Felix will be able to update his blog with any new art from the CG movie. It seems he left Imagi earlier this month, so we'll just have to update ourselves by new means
I wouldn't be surprised if it is, whether he was laid off himself or if he decided that Imagi's future was looking bleak, with lay offs being made, and left of his own accord.
My impression was that Patrick had also left Imagi. I do not know if he was part of the layoffs or if he left after that, like Felix did, or if my impression is completely off base and he's still working for Imagi. It's also possible that his "Farewell to them" comment was meant as a goodbye to the Gatchaman characters, since the comment was posted to some Gatchaman art that Felix had posted.
quote:
but what I do know is that things aren't looking too good with the movie
I know what you mean. Patrick and Felix's full comments do give the impression that they don't expect the movie to be made.
From Patrick:
quote:
Farewell to them, I really liked the property but it maybe one of these movies that never meant to be made...
Felix's Reply:
quote:
that's too sad about the project, there might be cursed... too sad.
Of course, this is nothing that can be taken as an official statement that the movie won't be made. It's just comments between friends. Of course, those friends both worked for Imagi and therefore have a better grasp on the internal situation at the company that we do, so their comments do make you wonder.

Its a shame we're not millionaires to be able to make our own movie.
I've recently seen two shows, one about Star Trek fans and one about Star Wars fans. Some of them actually make their own fan movies. I haven't looked for them, but that would be sooooo much fun!

Sad, but better no movie than a mess of a movie.
I agree, UW ... even if I so wish for something new like a Gatchaman movie to look forward to! We just have to rely on our own imagination, art and writing to keep the myth alive and going ... at least until now!
