Weapons

Ok, I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who *just* noticed this...I'm sure that this has been brought up before, but I missed it somehow...

Why am I just now noticing that Jun's yoyo changed as the series progressed? And now I am wondering if any other weapons changed in appearance...

I hadn't noticed it, but then its usually travelling fast so its a detail thats harder to pick up. Also the uses change as the series progresses too for all the weapons. The can do more things.

Also the colours become simpler with her yo-yo. Do think they did it to speed up the process of producing eps. Less details.

Ken's boomerang changed sizes depending upon the needs of the plot. I recall a few fights in which it was about two feet tip to tip, and he used it like a curved sword or knife.

And Joe's gun looked like a rifle in one scene of the 'Neon Giant' episode.

Hi all!

Jinpei's Clacker changed colors early in the run. In the first episodes, it is colored red and yellow, but it soon switched to blue and white.

I actually never took particular notice of such changes during a series, once it was not mentioned specifically (apart from the changes from one series to the other) but I accept the fact that weapons throughout the war needed to be upgraded in order to enhance their performance especially after perhaps having detected limited efficiency during past battles, thus changing also in their appearance. As the series evolved I took these changes for granted!

That's the same thing I thoughtof, Marie. Or perhaps, the yo-yo came in different color versions. We know Jun can use her yo-yo as a bomb. After it explodes, she'll need a new one, so she probably used several yo-yo's during the series!

And Ken seemed to be constantly throwing away (or loosing) his weapon. I seem to recall it also exploded several times after he filled it with explosives, thus destroying it. Wink

As mentioned with the replacement of his weapon could have been an upgrade.

I only recall seeing the blu-ish yo-yo once, maybe twice, and same with Jinpei's red and yellow bolos. I always took these to be animation errors, such as the shots where the numbers on the t-shirts are wrong.

I've noticed that too! His gun really does seem to vary in size, especially depending on whether it's in use or in his holster.

[Okay, that sounds like a double entendre...]

It makes it difficult to draw, I find, but then, this is the same guy who can somehow stash handfuls of feather shuriken in the side of his jeans without creating a lump on the outside of his thigh.

Hi all!

Here's a couple of shots from episode #1, showing Jinpei's red stripe:

By episode #2, the stripe became little more than a line on his leg.

By episode #4, even the line was gone.

His Clacker was red and yellow in episode #1

And in episode #2.

It was in episode #6 that the blue and white Clacker made its debut.

But, apparently not everyone got the memo, since it has the old coloring in the very next shot.

One thing you might notice in the shot with the blue and white Clacker is that it's one of the few times that it's obvious that the Clacker has a propellor, as shown in the original model sheet designs for the weapon. That was a detail that was quickly discarded.
