Hi all,
I saw that IMDB had added an actor for Jinpei a few days ago, and knew this would come up sooner or later.
I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll have to say it again, but do not believe any of the voice cast information that is currently on IMDB. If the film had actual cast members in place, Imagi would have announced it, if anything just to show they were actively working on the project. But, as of now, they have not and do not. What you are seeing is nothing more than the wish list of actors from someone who is feeding information to IMDB (Which, as you pointed out, still claims Kevin Munroe is Directing, not to mention that Robert Mark Kamen and Paul Dini are still writing the script).
You need to bear in mind that IMDB gets its information from a variety of sources, not the least of which are from "trusted sources" that are nothing more than people who post on their message boards frequently enough that IMDB deems them "trustworthy." From the look of things, the actors listed there are little more than someone's "dream cast" for a live-action Gatchaman movie, not an animated film.
Look at the main voice cast for Astro Boy a stop and think about it for a second. They have name actors -- Nathan Lane, Donald Sutherland, Kristen Bell, Nicolas Cage, Bill Nighy, and Freddie Highmore (Whose work I'm unfamiliar with, but he apparently is quite popular with the young-teen-girl set) -- people who you may have actually heard of. When they finally do cast their Gatchaman movie, they will follow the same pattern by casting known actors in the lead roles. They won't do this necessarily because these actors are better than other relatively unknown actors, but because these names will put more people in movie theater seats. And they certainly wouldn't be casting actors because they happen to look like what someone might imagine the characters should look like.
Now, assuming Astro Boy does well enough in the box office that Imagi can keep going (Always a concern, considering what the company went through earlier this year), it would be likely that we would begin to see some official information regarding the film in the next 6~8 months. Naming a Director and a Writer would be the likely start, not casting the film, since the Director usually has some say in who his cast will be. So, until then, just ignore what's being listed on the IMDB.
James
