Or it's possible that they hadn't decided what his family name would be at that point, and it would have been rude of him to introduce himself as just "Ken."
Of course, they ended up not being very creative with his last name! Washio has just too close a resemblance to 'Owashi.
I guess we're just lucky we didn't end up with Joe Ukondor!
I agree with lborgia in that kids in either series seem so damm annoying. Makoto does seem the worst of them.
I'll admit that I feel a bit sorry for Makoto when his uncle tells him that if he doesn't behave, then his father won't ever come back. I mean, I could understand telling a little kid that if they don't behave, they won't get any cookies or something like that but...

For some reason I keep thinking now about that crazy ski jumper from the 1988 Calgary winter olympics, "Eddie the Eagle" -was there possibly something about him that we didn't notice back then?

You know you say that LB and now I wonder if that is where I subconsciously got the idea in my AU that Mark's Grandfather tells Mark that his "Mother died because he did something bad."
Okay a bit of background, for those who do not know and want to, in my AU Mark is adopted by Anderson and his wife at age 1. Mark thinks of Anderson's wife as Mama, although Anderson is always Chief (or Sir.) Some day I might post about this, although pieces have come out in my Christmas fic and in Forbidden Flight. So I am not referring to Mark's biological family in my above comment.

While I love the eagle, it does get dull when it is all about him. I also agree that it is one creepy looking monster!
Great job on the recaps! - and I am really enjoying the fan pages, Springie. I don't think I am detail-oriented enough to find the bloopers but I sure enjoy them you when point them out.

Thanks, Gogirl! I know I haven't found all of the bloopers in every episode, but as time goes on, I see that they make a lot of the same types of mistakes..it'ss just fun to watch and look for them! I also enjoy doing the quotes, b/c I notice funny lines that I missed before!

It is those bloopers and jokes that I read those fun pages for.
like gogirl I do not seem to notice most of the bloopers that you have found. I am more interested in the action.

I think this episode would be better if Makoto wasn't so obnoxious... but that's me. I am a eagle girl after all . Definitely not one of the better episodes in the series.

You're forgetting that Ken was indeed a brat when he was a child. According to Sabu, Ken's nickname when he was a child was "Wild Boy Ken."
And we all know that Sabu was of high moral character himself.
This wasn't one of my favorite episodes I've seen thus far, although I did like the Mummy.
The one thing I didn't get was Ken letting the kid think there's a chance that his dad will come back by making himself be the bad guy. I'd think that giving the kid a false sense of hope would be worse!
Other than that, they made the kid way too unlikeable for the episode to really tug on the heart strings. Really I think this episode was laying the ground for the whole Ken/Red Impulse episode later on.
