Paddington Bear The Movie Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Report Post to a Moderator        IP Information Go to the top of this page

I just read on Wikipedia that there could be a film about a kids charactor called Paddington Bear.

Just thought I let people know.

If you don't know what I am talking about, then don't worry, just follow this link . The actual link is from a recent series of adverts selling Marmite, but the kids show was made in the same way.

I remember watching Paddington.
Not sure I would want to pay to watch a movie though but I might show it to my students when it came out on DVD.

A a kid, I had a Paddington Bear T-Shirt. Wore it at school one time and saw 2 other kids wearing exact the same T-Shirt.

that was a bit bizarre for me.

I read the Paddington Bear books as a kid and loved them! They were a lot of fun. I didn't know that there was an animated version?

I saw Paddington Bear on television when I was a kid, but only if I was at the house of a friend who had cable television -there was a new cable channel then, available in Nova Scotia" called "Galaxy" and it carried a lot of British children's shows. My friend's family had lived in Scotland for a few years, when she was younger, and she was thrilled to see many of her favourite shows again.

Growing up in Canada, my favourites had been The Friendly Giant and Mr. Dress-up. I remember all my cousins in Connecticut being shocked to realize I didn't know who Mr. Rogers or Captain Kangaroo were -I'd never seen them.

Don't forget Polka Dot DOor and Stories from the Green Forest!

And my personal favorite: Barbapapa!

I remember Barbapapa, but it was a show I could only see if I was at a friend's house who had cable. Cable TV became available in our area in the late 70s, but my parents refused to get it. I have to admit I have never heard of the Polka Dot Door or Stories From the Green Forest.

Sometimes I am amazed that I actually got to to see Battle of the Planets! Clearly I had a deprived childhood in Nova Scotia, at least where television was concerned!

Wow, all of those shows were on TV Ontario (equivalent of PBS) for us. We didn't have cable either.

BOTP was on Global, if I recall correctly.

We just got the CBC and ATV (the maritime version of CTV) and that was it. Battle of the Planets was on ATV.

Cable television in Nova Scotia, in the 70s and 80s meant that CBS, ABC, NBC, and PBS were piped in from Maine.

My Dad thought that no one needed to watch any TV except the CBC news Sniffle

That sounds very similar to my home LB. Maybe that is why I do not remember watching many of the shows people talk about. And why as an adult I found myself sitting in front of the TV, that is until I found this site and now I sit in front of the computer all day.

We didn't have cable, but I guess living in Toronto had some benefits. We got the American stations from across the lake on our antenna. Although if the weather was bad they would fade out. We had CBS and CTV and Global and TVO as well, and they were always very clear. Oh yeah, and City TV.

I still watch that. In fact I watch it every morning as I am getting ready for work.

So, in Toronto you could pick up 8 stations with an antenna, while in Nova Scotia it was only possible to pick up 2? So not fair!

Well, I guess I did have easy access to ocean beaches, though, and, FWIW, fresh lobster.

I would say it was more than 8, because we got a bunch of American stations beamed off of the CN Tower.

Buffalo 29 (or fox?), ABC, NBC, CBS, shoot I can't remember them all and it was only 5 years ago that I moved from antenna to cable.
Oh how the mind likes to forget what was "bad". Rofl

I think that's it, CD, except there was also PBS from Buffalo.

And then there were French stations. There was CBC French and another French one. And later there was some Tele-something station that was all kinds of languages.

Any of the Canadians remember that one episode of 'He Shoots, He Scores' that featured the bathtub scene that ran unedited only on the French CBC? Big Grin

Buffalo 29 was an independent station, but it became Fox when the Fox network was born. But that wasn't until later.

There was one French TV station in Nova Scotia when I was a kid, but it came in so poorly it was unwatchable. I think it was really aimed at New Brunswick.

I don't remember "He Shoots, He Scores" but that doesn't surprise me at all. If there's one thing that they are NOT in Quebec, it's prudish!
