I loved the book as a kid, and so did my nephew when I used to read it to him. Yes, there's some darkness to the story, but if the film is making kids cry and ask to leave, then the filmmakers must be doing something very wrong with it!

Yikes! I remember being a bit spooked by the book when I was really young, but as I got a little older and understood it better, I really liked it.

But I don't think I was ever as scared of the book as the movie seems to have made it!
