Actually, that letter pretty much says exactly what's been going on. They've been flipflopping on who is going to do the next Superman movie because NO ONE wants to do the next Superman movie.
News is Singer has signed on with WB to do the Superman movie, but he will not be doing X-men 3. The producers Neal Moritz and Gilbert Adler have vanished, and they've just tossed out a screenplay by J.J. Abrams.
Australia appears to be the country of the shoot, which is supposed to start later this year. The budget, now, is fixed at $200 million, but we'll see once they confirm producers, script and so on.
The film was going to center around a battle with Lex Luthor and a mysterious person from Krypton (amazing how so many people keep coming from a no-longer-in-existence planet), but Singer wants to do something different.
In recent history, alterations to the Superman character have not been met with much enthusiasm at all by fans. So we'll just have to wait and see how things develop--you know Hollywood, it's a dog eat dog world.
If you're looking for any more info on superhero films, just let me know. Let's say I have an ear to the ground.
