I'm not enormously impressed so far, but I'm a huge Terminator fan. (Big enough that I refuse to acknowlege T3.) I'm also a big Lena Heady fan -- she's what's keeping me watching.
The show did a clever trick where they undid everything that had been done in T3 (guess they're big fans too) so Sarah is alive in 2007.
Why am I not impressed so far...?
I think part of it is just that it's a TV series, and after all the action of the films, it seems slow. There are also a number of critics who have said that Summer Glau is miscast as the Terminator protector for John. I'm still not sure if I agree, but I do think they could have done better. I also wasn't impressed with how well she "passed" before John knew what she was, but after we found out she was a Terminator, all of her social skills deserted her. I mean, pick -- is she more advanced or not?
There's this great scene in one of the first episodes where she's thrown into a car, and her head goes through the windshield. The people inside start freaking out, and she goes, deadpan, "Please remain calm."
I'm still taping them on my DVR, and I need to watch a couple of episodes yet. But I'm on the fence about whether I'll keep watching. I guess we'll see how I feel after watching a couple more eps. (I think I've watched 4 so far.)

I was reading about this on Wikipedia and what I can understand it is that the series was set in an alternate timelime, which explains that when Sarah, John and an advanced terminator from 2027 (before the T 800 in 2029?) were transported forward in time (huh?) to 2007 from 1999.
Also, most films that become TV series, like Stargate, will have different actors from the films and will expand from the films a lot more.
As for this advanced Termeinator that is more advanced than any other terminators like the3 T 800 and T 1000 that is made of mimetic polyalloy, then I think it's a bit dodgy, but I need to watch ther actual series to decide whether it's a good idea or not.
