Thursday, September 7, evening:
I had been having some troubles with my breathing for several days.
However, this time was different.
I couldn't inhale.
I couldn't exhale.
Inhaler didn't work.
Nebulizer didn't help.
I couldn't breathe!
Nurses and CNAs surrounded my bed. I kept gasping. I was overheating.
When my eyes opened, I found myself in an ICU, a tube down my throat.
Just before my tube was taken out, I was told what had happened. I had passed out and stopped breathing. As the ambulance was taking me to the nearest ER -- a trip across the street -- my heart stopped. I received CPR, and I received a shock from the paddles. I arrived at the ER, and my heart stopped again. And again, CPR and the defibulator.
While Respiratory Therapists worked with me to get my breathing under control, cardiologists ran tests to see if I'd had a heart attack (I hadn't), if any part of the heart muscle was weak (nope -- the heart is strong), or if I had any clogged arteries (nope.)
So today, September 13, I'm back at Hillcrest. I have a 30-day heart monitor (the cardiologists have changed my AFib meds and want to be sure they are working). I also have some new wounds to heal.
But, if you're worried, the Autumn Exchange is still ON. I'm looking forward to seeing what the entrants create!
