Hi all,
I just heard this on the way home from a shopping trip. I'm pretty sad about it, even though I knew his general health had been declining lately. It will probably take a while to sink in. I hadn't spoken with him for a little while but I knew he went to the Motion Picture & TV Home roughly around the same time I had a major health setback.
Here is a little more information via the LA Times' obituary
Of all his long career and roles, I'll always remember him best for 7-Zark-7. Heck, my vehicle has been subjected to that name on its license plate for more than a decade now.
Mr. Young was always very friendly to me and patient with all my questions and intrusions about Keyop and Zark (and Mr. Ed and The Time Machine, and on and on). I know he was able to meet a lot of his fans over the years, but I'm really glad we were able to get him to appear at the LA Shrine Auditorium on December 16, 2001.
He and Janet Waldo attended a Battle of the Planets event there and were able to meet some fans face-to-face. It was a great afternoon, and as far as I know, the only time he appeared at a specific event for Battle.
I've been doing a lot of research into the series again lately and have just been through a couple marathon nights of episodes... so 7-Zark-7 is still ringing in my ears (in a good way!).
I'm glad he was surrounded by his family when he passed and that he lived a long, successful and happy life.
Here's a shot of Janet Waldo, me and Alan taken at the Shrine Auditorium event.
Thanks for all the fun and great memories, Mr. Young!
