Is anyone else bothered by the onslaught of X-Mas decorations in the stores and X-Mas related commercials on TV? Can we at least get to Thanksgiving first? It's starting to lose its meaning with this lengthy commercialism.

I've been whining about this since Nov 1. That's when I started seeing Christmas commercials on TV. The only Christmas stuff I wanted to be exposed to this early (and technically earlier) was the office Christmas party that I've been helping to plan for a few months.

Hunting for Eagles and Condors and Lions - oh my!
it's not so much the shops and TV ads that bother me so much, those people are in business to make money after all, it's those silly 'Countdown to Christmas' posts on Facebook that start in September that really bug me!

Let's see...some stores put up Christmas decorations at the first of October, a neighbor had their place fully decorated by November 1 (I think they took down their Halloween stuff as soon as the trick-or-treating time was over), and a local radio station started playing Christmas music 24/7 on September 15! I wouldn't be surprised if they started the countdown to next Christmas this December 26!

It has been getting progressively worse. I too will not be doing anything with black Thursday. It's just not worth fighting those crowds. We tried to go to one store last year for a special Christmas gift and the closest parking was blocks away and the line to just get in the door at the store was hours long . We just went back home without stopping.

I'm Buddhist who is excited to the plans for shopping Christmas decorations.
Christmas stuffs make my home somewhat more cozy and warm.
I always display a tiny Christmas tree every winter, I hang colorful foil-wrapped chocolate balls on it.
Selfish Korean Christians are annoying rather than Christmas commercials....
OHH....
I'm a girl on the other side of the earth who is looking forward to Black Friday with my Visa Card!! Especially www.Victoriassecret.com
These days I buy lots of things at American on-line shopping malls. Korean importers double, tripple the original retail price in US.
I bought two Juicy Couture dresses recently, the price was 1/6 comparing Korean department stores.
Korean Government is pretty annoyed by young people who make purchases on the abroad online malls. But there is nothing they can do because of US-Korea FTA. Creepy major newspapers are saying that young Koreans don't love their mother country, and Government should limit the amount of purchase.
Few days ago, one of the main news of 9.pm was- "Black Friday is coming, Government is worrying."

I always wait until the day after Christmas to pull out my Christmas decorations...but I love Christmas! I just love the decorations...I'm sad when I have to take them down!
I agree, though, they put things out way too early. Some of it is understandable, like the craft stores...so crafters can get started making Christmas themed items. I think it has just become a competition to grab customers...and it has gotten out of hand. I shouldn't be looking at christmas commercials before Halloween!

Back when my parents were alive, we had to come up with a compromise because the kids wanted all the decorations up as soon as the stores, while my dad wanted us to wait until Christmas Eve and then take everything down on Christmas Day. Finally, we agreed to put up the decorations after the 13th (my parents' wedding anniversary) and take them down sometime around Jan. 1.

Don't know if it helps, but the episode opens with someone complaining about how early the stores are hyping the holidays ...
I usually ignore Christmas decorations at big chain-stores (though I do complain about them - putting Santa in a country where presents are traditionally brought by baby Jesus is wrong on several levels). What puts me into Christmas spirit is the opening of the annual Christmas street market. Strolling through the snowy streets of Liberec while drinking mulled wine and eating waffles or honey cake is the best.

Guess I didn't stay on the channel long enough to hear that.
