I don't know about anyone else, but I am so sick of snow I could scream. They're now saying northern VA could get 1-5 inches tomorrow night. Cussing

steelchair You're not the only one fed up with it! We just get a tiny taste of spring and then the bottom falls out!

I'm not sure exactly what They're calling for here -- just that we'll be having an almost 30 degree drop in the temperature that will hold on for most of next week.

We still have 1-2 feet of snow on the ground and up to 3 feet where I have shoveler and piled the snow. So the only daffodils I am seeing right now are the ones I have in pots and sitting on the window sills.

I hope the daffodils do well, Becky.

You snow stealers you! We hardly got any at all this year! (btw. daffodils should do fine, unless the temperature drops too low. If they can survive our Frozen Men, then they can take a bit of late winter/early spring frost)

Why can't it snow in the areas that are suffering from draught? If only there was some way to ship it to them...

There was the mad rush for the grocery stores and gas stations. I normally shop on Sundays, so I have to admit I was part of the crowd.

EW: LOL! I may need to! Last year, Japanese stilt grass took over the tiny patch of grass I call my front yard and it is now a barren patch of mud. Between the dog and my three kids, I need something out there to contain the mess. Hmmm ... maybe green electric blankets ...

A couple of years ago, a guy in Indianapolis decided he'd had his fill of trying to keep his lawn watered over an especially hot summer, so he let the grass die and then painted his yard green!

Love it! I can relate to his frustration. When I lived in Utah, I remember seeing a white yard one winter and thinking, hey, why do they have snow when no one else does? Turns out they had landscaped their entire front yard in white rocks. Or we could do like my folks did when we lived in California - wood chips and a giant cactus!

If you watch golf tournaments, have you ever wondered how they keep their grass so green? It's spray paint. That's where that guy got the idea and after he did it, he was approached by many to paint their yards as well. The paint is special and costs a bit, as the golf courses don't want their courses to look painted.

We had 4 inches this past Tuesday. It stuck on everything except the road, at least.

Today, I went to the grocery store in the cold rain. When I came out, it was snowing like there was no tomorrow. Big, wet, nasty snow with wind.

This winter has convinced me even more that our decision to retire to Florida can't come soon enough - alas, got to wait at least 6 more years.

With my RA, heat feels very good.

I've unfortunately had some experience with them. Hurricane Agnes in the 70s at Virginia Beach, Hurricane Hugo while in Greensboro, NC and then Hurricane Gaston at Myrtle Beach about 10 years ago. Actually here in the WDC area, we've had some come through, but we're far enough inland not to go get the worst part - the storm surge. I think there have been 4 since I've lived in No VA.

I don't like the wind now, so the rule for Florida will be: hurricane is coming, we batten down the hatches and leave. God wiling, the house will still be there when we get back. If not, it wasn't meant to be.

With hurricanes it's important whether you live inland or near the coast. Near the coast means a lot more water hazard risk. Inland the damage is more likely to be just wind (though a lot of rain can fall during a hurricane).

Where in FL are you thinking to move? There are portions of FL where it's safer to be during a hurricane even if it's passing right over you, and that hurricanes are less likely to hit, though nowhere is 100% safe. (Again, this often has to do with coast vs inland, but also depends on how easy it is to evacuate, the more limitations the more trouble things can be.)
