Help him comprehend what is happening if he does not understand.

In the area I'm talking about the TV is a baby sitter and the kids just watch it with no thought or discussion.

Then parents wonder why the children do not do well in story writing or reading.... they have not been taught how to comprehend what they are seeing or reading. Only to take it at face value and not dig deeper.

Testing shows the children in our school can answer the, in your face questions but not the inferencing questions.

Some parents dont listen to their children much.

I was on a long bushcraft weekend last month, and met up with a father and his son (and somes friend, whom I dont know what his mother thought she was letting him in for when she gave permission for this trip) the boys had most direful expressions on.

Im not good with children but I sussed it out immediatley, it was early, I knew they had arrived late last night and so I assum,ed they were hungry.

He told me they had had cheese and salami for brekfast.

We took them to see one of the big groups Harris Hawk, and this made no real impression,

So I took them back to my camp and cooked them a big hot meal, and pretty soon they were smiling.

Speaking of Gatch toys - I know what I'm getting for my birthday (only three weeks to go!!) - and I'm actually slightly disappointed ...

I stumbled upon a rather nice Gatchaman Zippo lighter on ebay. I commented on how nice it was to Flash - but really had no desire for it ...

It's, like, over $100!!

Anyhoo, so Flash being Flash, told me that I could have it for my birthday (screw that, if I wanted it I'd just buy it!!) so he bookmarked it.

I snuck in and un-bookmarked it ...

Flash then researched it and bookmarked it again saying "I just sold one of my bats so I have money in the Paypal account we may as well spend ...

Now. I never thought I'd second-guess buying something Gatch - but it's over $100 for one single lighter! Something I'd lose in around ten seconds ... Oh sure, I'd love it, but it's $100! Seems like alot of money .... sigh ...

I actually have my eyes on something else from eBay that is much cheaper, and something I'd have alot of fun with ...

I want the "Forensics" spray jacket and T-Shirt see here for the jacket and here for the shirt ... oh oh oh pant pant pant how about this one swoon ...

But then again - want and need. I don't need these things - I'd like them very muchly - but I don't need to spend that kind of money ... do I?

Ahh shit - I just looked for the lighter to show y'all and now it's gone. Oh well. I guess Flash didn't bid on it <grin>

Oh well. I'm on a birthday present wish list now ... Any suggestions?

Lame? You're calling me lame? I really don't give a rats-ass what someone in security thinks if I wear a t-shirt or a jacket. As a matter of fact, the real-life cops and SWAT guys I know think it looks pretty cute. Some of them have even handed me down some of their stuff to me to play in. I'm not wanting these items to impress anyone - I just tend to like that kind of thing.

At least it's not black fatigues or a kevlar vest. It's just a t-shirt and a spray jacket.

I'll throw them on top of a pair of Levi jeans and Nike Shox ...

And anyway - I'm a chick, I can get away with wearing shit like that; helps, too, when you have great ta ta's...

I have an official O.P.P. hat, an official W.A. Police force hat, Force issue zippos and other such stuff, and because I'm a chick, I make it look cute, not stupid.

I don't attempt to pull off the whole "official" look ... I don't like fatigues or vests or anything stupid like that. Just a shirt and spray jacket for baseball works for me.

So you can call me as lame as you want, Tengu, I really really don't care what anyone else thinks ...

Kinda like wanting to slip on a G-3 civvy uniform replica ...

FYI, you can still get Gatch lighters on the official Tatsunoko page, but you have to live in Japan to order them. I got a t-shirt from there but I had to order through a special service.

Yes we have done. Last year we had a firefighter, police officer, nurse, and Construction Worker come in. One each week. Then we got to visit the firehouse and Public Works Site with all the Big machinery.

Unfortunately the firefighter was female. No fun for me.

And the police officer come in and showed us his full riot gear. One of the other teachers got chosen to wear it all.
*I got to take the pictures..... and admire the Officer.*

lol we have open days and invite people so they get to see where we work as well as the policeman with their guns (yep appreciate that is the norm for most of you guys but here in the UK most are still unarmed)

They also get to see the dogs, helicopters and horses. Our last open day went down really well and was aimed at the families of staff members so they could see the bigger picture.

We are just the other side of Notting Hill weekend here and its been a busy one.

As far as Firefighters etc go we work in close partnership with them and have some wonderful contacts
