Gatchaman Movie Second Weekend

Hi all!
Well, the numbers are now in for the second weekend for the Gatchaman movie. As we already knew, the film dropped from 6th place in its first weekend to 8th place in its second.
The film retained all 307 theaters that were showing it durings its first week, and its total ticket sales for the weekend of August 31/September 1 was 80,360,577 yen ($805,648.76 at current exchange rates). This is a drop of 35,337,023 yen ($354,189.01) from last week's total of 115,697,600 Yen ($1,172,333.31 at last weekend's exchange rates), a drop of roughly 30%.
Of course, the film wasn't only showing on weekends. It had ticket sales throughout the week as well. Its total gross for the nine days from its opening day (August 24th) through last Sunday (September 1st) comes to 315,593,350 Yen ($3,163,157.65 at current rates). This total is pretty much what the film was expected to make in its opening 2-day weekend. Unfortunately, it took it 9 days to reach that mark.
The film has sold a total of 268,286 tickets, meaning that in one week, the film added 177,698 tickets to the 90,318 from its opening weekend, not quite tripling its total ticket sales over the subsequent seven days.
What do all these numbers mean? Well, the film still isn't doing great, and a 30% drop in income from one week to the next has got to be an "Ouch!" for Nikkatsu. Articles like the one that swept the Japanese media last week proclaiming the film a box office failure probably aren't helping matters. Once a film has the scent of failure attached to it, it can be hard, if not impossible, for it to shake it.
Regardless, I'll keep an eye on it, and we'll see how it does in the weeks to come.
