Maybe there was talk about it and I missed it, but an artist on Deviant Art posted some designs for a Warner Bros. Gatchaman cartoon series. It looks like one of the pictures was from 2011...but another picture was just recently posted...I posted a remark inquiring about it on the artists page.
Wow, the art is really impressive, especially the G-1. I read an article about the new live series work going on in Japan, and the creators were saying that they wanted to expand it.

Looks exciting, but I am not too sure about how true to the original it will be.
Although the G1 looks impressive, to me it has a resemblance of the chicken ship. And it looks like it might be part car, (with the 4 wheels that are depicted) that transforms into a plane. Or am I being too negative/picky?

Do you recall at Comic Con that an artist showed us sketches he did for a redesign of Gatchaman... a project that never went through? IIRC, he started showing them to us in 2011. I'm curious is these pictures you posted are associated with the same project, Springie.
CD, it does look too much like the chickenship, and I don't like that it goes from sports car to plane. From plane to jet, I'd buy in a heartbeat, but the car to plane is too much like Transformers or something, not Gatchaman.

I was wondering why they were dated 2011, too?

I was thinking Transformers as well when I saw that it went from car to plane. But I wondered if it was because I also saw the artist did a lot of the transformers artistry as well.
My feeling is the artist got too much Transformers into this work. Unless that is what he was asked to do by the producer, so the company could draw a lot of the Transformer viewers over to Gatch.

Personally I'm a lot more fussy about the characters/story than the vehicles. It was pretty inconvenient for the team that their vehicles were locked into a single mode so I could get behind multi-form vehicles if it was done well and not cheesy, but I'd hope they'd keep each member's particular specialty in mind.
I'm not in love with the G-1 vehicle design but I don't hate it either. However, what I really want to see is the characters themselves. *crosses fingers*

I don't mind the appearance of the plane (so far). And now Ken doesn't have to catch a lift with one of the others when on the ground.
Yeah, Ken in uniform and you can't see his face or hair. After the OAVs I find that I'm waiting in anxiety to see if these guys also made him a boy band reject.
It is kind of embarrassing, really, in the originals. "I'm the White Shadow, the Mighty Gatchaman, uh, can I catch a ride with you?"
