I'd be happy but very surprised if it aired, subtitled, in movie theaters in North America. Sure, many foreign-language films do, but I'm not sure Nikkatsu, or a North American distributor, would think there's a big enough audience here for a Japanese-language Gatchaman movie to justify it. Granted, Imagi's CGI version looked to be intended for a theatrical release in North America, but it was in English whereas it's been my perception that a lot of people aren't as keen to go see subtitled movies (especially with kids). That said, I'm sure it will become available to buy on DVD, though probably first only in Japan, and solely in Japanese.

But I hold out hope that Nikkatsu will do a DVD version with English subtitles -at the very least, someone, somewhere, will surely do an English fansub eventually, and such things have a way of turning up on Ebay and such places...

That was the information I was looking for, or wondering about. How long after the release might we be able to get our hands on a subtitled DVD version. Thank you TJ and LB for your helpful information.

For those who will be in Japan that day, the release date of the Nikkatsu Gatchaman movie has been announced. Get ready for August 24, 2013!

GG, it will be out in Japan in August, but I would not expect to see it in North America for at least 6 months after that on DVD. Well maybe by Christmas ... if we are lucky. And then we will have to watch with subtitles because it will be in Japanese or one of the other East Asian languages.

I guess for next years Christmas present you could ask for a copy of the Gatchaman DVD.

I honestly could not guess. I am not even sure if I would be able to get it here in Canada.

I will probably have to wait until I can get someone in the States to purchase it for me and then get it to me when I am at the Con the following year.

If possible I would say some one could purchase a copy and mail it to you. But I suspect regional differences might not make that possible.

Jinpei is adorable, too! But what is going on with Joe's messy hair? I don't know if it really fits his persona...maybe it will make sense when/ if I see the movie...
