So I guess THAT is what the Mayan calendar mean by the last day.
I was just talking to someone wondering what time of day the "end" would occur. Has anyone heard a time specified? Just wondering if I should set my alarm to get up, or will I have to do a full days work.

A local meteorologist said 6:28 am EST, but I think he was being a bit of a smart aleck, since that's the official start of winter (or summer, in littlewolf's case.)

That's just hilarious! Well ... today's weather here is all cloudy, humid and cold, but that seems normal, doesn't it?! Can't see signs of any redness in the sky! Guess the only redness we'll see is that of a normal sunset!

What about the bloodshot eyes of the people who stayed up all night to watch for the end to come?
My son intended to do that. I gave my copy of the Hitchhiker's Guide and told him to be quiet. He was asleep within 15 minutes, but that is normal when he reads.
Average temp has been 32-36C =90-97F (24/7) constant most of day and evening
Air has been so heavy, thick and dusty it's hard to breathe
Hot winds (if any)
Humidity about 70-80%
Keeps threatening to storm but all we get is noise, lightening and a few spits of rain (and the wind takes care of that)
Last lot of decent rain was months ago so everything is dry and wilting - (haven't mowed in months little grass just dirt)
Normal Fire Warning for this time of year
It's not dark till about 6.30 - 7.00pm
Santa better have A/C in the sleigh and plenty of water to drink
Cause the tourist are dropping like flies

PS this is normal for QLD this time of year (except for several years ago when it flooded)
But for all those people around the world who are going through unusually odd and destructive weather, my heart goes out to you.
It's easier when you expect floods, fire, drought and stuff as normal were you live. But it's heart wrenching when the weather smites you without warning or delays plans to see the ones you love.
I keep seeing footage from around the world, makes me realize I am lucky to live were I do.
Post-Mayan-Apocalypse Blessing to you all

That's a good one, EW, and, unfortunately, I think there have uselessly been a lot! Ah ... there's so much in life to worry and ponder about apart from these absurd insinuations!

I know this day has long past, but did anyone venture out and watch the meteor shower a few days before this. Thought one was low enough that it would catch the trees on fire in my area, but it happened so fast no one else had a chance to see it

I did, gatchgirl! Where I live there is a lot of light pollution, so I was very surprised that I could see the meteor shower at all. It was awesome. I stood in the parking lot of our townhouse complex at midnight and stared at the sky. I'm sure my neighbors were wondering what I was up to!

it certainly was a spectacular one. I've tried in the past to watch showers but it's been awhile since I've seen anything like that. Glad you got to see some of them even with the light pollution
