G-Force sighting ?!? Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Report Post to a Moderator        IP Information Go to the top of this page

.... I think.

Does any one else watch NCIS: Los Angeles?

On tonight's episode they had a continuing sub-plot about cartoons and G-Force happened to be mentioned. It got me wondering, is this a reference to one of the Gatch derivations that we know and love or is there another cartoon by the G-Force name or with G-Force characters (possibly an American one) that I have not heard about?

I believe there is actually one that was called G-Force, that (according to what I've heard, I haven't actually seen the show) stayed closer to the original but had horrific voice acting. It was newer than BOTP. However, since the BOTP team was called G-Force they could also have been referencing BOTP.

Chris I am aware of that derivation, and I do wonder if that is the one they were talking about on NCIS. But because "our" G-Force is not well known, as far as I am concerned, it made me wonder if perhaps the two were talking about another cartoon or show.

Daniella - they got to talking about cartoons because a suspect was blown up when he was trying to light his cigar. This got the Main characters talking about Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam, presumably Sam gets blown up by an exploding cigar (although I can not pinpoint a specific moment because I think that is a common theme through several cartoons). This lead to a discussion about Hanna Barbera and then to which was better Hong Kong Fuey or Underdog. In there G-Force was mentioned. Does that help explain?

I'm wondering if they are referring to a film called G-Force that came out a few years ago. Nothing to do with the Gatch franchise, I believe it featured rodents of some description. (not having seen either the film or the NCIS show I really don't know)

If they were talking about Hanna Barbera, then it is likely they were talking about BOTP or GoS.

KT - I really don't think they were talking about the G-Force movie considering it has only been show in the last few years and these characters are really not likely to have watched/seen something like the movie. Also, I think they would have referred to it as a movie and not a cartoon. *shrug* I could be wrong though and the thought of the movie did cross my mind when I heard the comment.

TJ - I really do suspect the comment was in reference to BoTP or GoS. I guess it just surprised me to hear such a reference, in what I consider a serious show. And then it was reference to a show that I believe not many people would remember or know.

But it is a good reference, since there is a "team" who are saving the people of Los Angeles/California from "dastardly deeds." Wink Chris O'Donnell is one of the lead characters so I guess a reference to Batman would have been out of the question - although I could have seen a comment like that making a connection to a larger audience.

CD -- I watched the episode, too. Given the ages of Sam and Callen, I think it's more likely they're talking about GoS; even though they would've been alive when BotP was airing, they would have been too young to remember it. (I figure they're around my niece's age, who's in her 30's.)

To be honest, I didn't pay attention to the reference -- I was too caught up enjoying Callen's efforts to get Sam to admit he's a geek...or at least a fanboy!

I thought as much, It was just something that crossed my mind and thought it deserved consideration.

Aww, I hope they do mean GOS! It got a ton of airtime for a few years on Cartoon Network.

What other cartoons did they mention? Maybe that would help date the reference...

One thing to remember about GoS: It is likely that kids from the mid-90's will remember that more than kids from the mid-80's. Kids from the 80's would remember BotP along with kids from the 70's.

In California, BotP was aired until the mid-80's. I never saw GoS until the 90's and Cartoon Network. Owned by Turner, GoS would have been limited to Turner's networks which would regional in the 80's while cable systems expanded. For example, my uncle in San Jose had a few years before we did. I think he got it around 83/84; we got around 86/87 approximately (and it rendered a few of my cousins Brave's fans for some gawd awful reason, but that is completely OT).

I think for most people their acquaintance with GoS came with Cartoon Network and I think with the larger audience it capitalized on the familiarity of the name G-Force which likely both hurt and helped it.

Neat find CD! NCIS is one of those shows that I'd watch if I had cable. I've seen some of the original, but not the LA version.
