There really isnt much to say to this.

My Uncle died two days ago. He was very weak. (I dont think ill is `quite` the word. But when you see someone listless and not eating you know its only a matter of time.)

Against dads advice I went to see my aunt and cousin.

And so I sat with them for a while. They were pleased to see me (and I didnt get in the way which I am very good at doing.) I think I did the right thing.

Too many times people tent to avoid the bereaved, not becaust they don't care, but because the thought of death reminds them that they are not immortal, and this makes them uncomfortable.

Just being there to share the grief will do wonders for the rest of the family and lets them know you care.

I'm terribly sorry to hear this, EW.

I never know what to say at times like these, but please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and that you have my deepest sympathies.

And Tengu, I am also sorry to hear about your uncle. It sounds like you were a comforting presence to your aunt and cousin and sometimes that is what is needed most.

Tengu, sorry to hear about your loss, too. You did the right thing.

When my Dad died, my uncle (his older brother) stayed with my mom for several weeks, before and after. My cousins came nearly every weekend. I think it helped my dad hang on until his body just couldn't.

It was a really hard thing for my uncle to do as he'd already lost an older sister and a younger one, but really appreciated at the same time.
