He can be taught! My brother at least.
Mom fell again today. Going down the stairs again. I know if I were there, it may not have happened, or if it had, would have only been a lift assist call to the Fire Department. But at least this time there are no broken bones. My oldest was with her, so at least she wasn't alone and the neighbor was outside to help him along with what he needed to do. It is kind of scary to know that my younger two could handle it easier than him, but that's life with a young adult with HFA/AS/ADHD/ and whatever else is still on his list of diagnosis.
When my brother called me after getting a message from his ex (she's the only one who can get him directly on the base), he asked if he was needed and explained that he was doing drills and that getting out would be really difficult.
This conversation went exactly like I imagined the first one should have. No, things aren't urgent, I'll keep you advised of any updates or changes.
I know some of it was having my DH with me in case I needed a break, and some of it was knowing that my brother was at work and not off playing or messing around, but a lot of it was just the fact that it was not assumed that I could take care of everything.
I don't mind if I know everyone else is doing something important or unable to get away at a moments notice. I just don't like it being assumed that I'm the one who's going to do it.

It is one story. Unfortunately, it is a mobile home in a flood prone park. She keeps saying she wants to sell it, but won't list it. I tried to list it while she was in the hospital for her broken leg last year, but she wouldn't let me. I'm not on the papers, so I couldn't actually list it, but I could have set up meetings with the realtor and let him see the place.
My brother talks like he is going to sell his home and move even closer and have her move in with him when he retires in two years. While I hope it does happen, I'll believe it when I see it.
What she needs in the meantime is a power chair and a lift for it. But we can't afford it, because she has mobility, medicare won't cover it, and lifts aren't covered anyway.
