This one is in China. The owner says the wings have bones in them. It can't fly, of course.
Apparently a winged cat was drowned in Russia as the locals believed it was a messenger from satan.
It is apparently caused by a genetic skin condition, or sometimes by people letting their cat's long fur get too matted and it coincidentally matting up into wing shapes.
Makes me think fanfic though. Cats and birds.... with the cats able to fly.

Wow can't say I have ever heard of that before but I have never owned a long hair before, I am pretty certain you would have to deliberately groom a cat to get wings like those.
Wikipedia's entry on winged cats. That got updated quickly - it's got the Granny Feng's cat mentioned in it, which is the photo I included in the first post.

It makes me wonder if this is where the Asian idea came from that baby dragons look like cats with wings. I've seen winged cats (which were baby dragons) in a number of video games and such.
Personally, it's bad enough to have seven cats running on all fours on the floor. If they started to fly, I don't think I could handle it.
Well, it's a retelling of a traditional tale. BM told it last year, or the year before, very different atmosphere to her version, but same basic plot. Hit it! Smash it! Crush it with the broom!
