I can imagine, LB. I know I would be doing the amused/amazed look as well. Expecting to see a dog and not a cat at the end of a leash.

Yeah, it's not the norm. I remember, as a little kid, being at a fair with my family, watching an equestrian event, and seeing someone nearby with a pet ferret on their lap -something I'd never seen or heard of before. I said "Look, Mom, that guy has a weasel!" loud enough for him to hear me, as it turned out. He, somewhat indignantly, informed me "It's a ferret."

Actually I got the cat-leash idea from seeing a woman at a highway rest stop with her cat on a leash.

She inspired me, and maybe I've given other people the idea too -who knows?

If the cat in question will put up with wearing a harness or being on a leash (not all will!) then I think it's a lot easier/cleaner than lugging along a litter box inside your car, and you also don't have to worry about them darting out of your car when a door's open and running off while you're in the middle of nowhere on a road trip if they're on a leash.

That's pretty much the case, certainly in the rooms I can't close him off from with doors! I'm making an effort, though, to demonstrate that my computer's keyboard is a forbidden place to walk/sleep too!

Cats and keyboards shall never be separated -- unless the cats wish it so.

I have a harness and leash for my cats. Generally speaking they only wear it when one of them is going to the V-E-T, but my male cat happily lets me slip it on and take him outside for a while.

Do we actually go for a walk....? Um..... Well... no.

He is a very curious kitty and has to examine everything...every blade of grass, every leaf of the tree outside the front door, every little piece of fluff...

By the time we get halfway to the gate less than 17 foot away from the door I could have walked a mile on my own!

Keep trying to enforce the keyboard rule, LB. They say cats can't be trained, but.... well, mine don't get up on the computer table very often at all due to some intense and consistent training. I find distraction works very well, but I have a cat who brings me 'gifts' of their toys and a cat who wants to walk over the desk. I simply lean down, pick up the latest offering and throw it....and off goes desk kitty!

They are definitely a team, KT!

I have two females and a male. The boy seriously has it good - he gets cuddles from one, plays with the other and has a human to feed him! Could anyone really ask for more than that?

I've been trying both "no!" with a shove, and distraction, ie. "Come sit on my lap here instead and I'll cuddle you." I think the second option's working better...

My previous cat lived to be 20, so for his last 5 years he was pretty sedate -not much running and jumping on things, a whole lot of sleeping. I'd rather forgotten how much more active a younger cat is!

Lets see... kitty gets a cuddle, LB gets a cuddle - a win-win situation all round!

The last cat we had was an 'old man' the day he was born. Then I got Zeek.... yes, that's how you spell it, because it's 'eek' with a Z!

I was not expecting the little flying ball of fluff that tore through my house, leaving destruction behind him. I got him a female companion when he was 10 months old in the hopes it would calm him down, and so he would have companionship while I was at work. It kind of worked, because Heidi is a born couch potato - she's also the one that brings me 'presents' to throw for Zeek...

Until I inherited another cat when he was 2.... Missy was 2 and a half, and now, 6 years later, they are still the double trouble they have been since day one.

And I wouldn't change a single hair about any of them!

LOL, I feel that way with Honey as well. Although Meg was always on the go, until the last couple of months, it was definitely at a slower pace than Honey keeps.

Good luck in training Sharpie to stay off the keyboard. I agree with Green I think the "cuddles for you and Kitty" is probably the best method. Although I suspect the "no" is also helping. Negative response, positive reinforcement.

It sounds like you have quite a handful there with your three Green. It is all this mischievousness that we love them for and remember the most when they are gone.

I recall once hearing about a program that you can install on a computer that locks it up if "cat-like typing" (ie. strange combinations of keys being pressed simultaneously) is detected -a notion that I can appreciate now! Laugh1

Oh, you are so incredibly correct, Cloud! It is all the little things that set them apart from others - even the bad things - that will live on in our memories.

Of all the pets I've had in my life time, I can name a single memory of each of when they were the most themselves.

It is also always the most fondest thought I have of them.

LB...I have heard of that program too, but I've had no luck in finding it... Admittedly, I really don't have too much of an issue with kitty 'help' when I'm trying to write, so I haven't looked that hard for it....

It would be a vastly different story if it was a program that would clean out their litter tray for me though!

I'll add to new pets

meet Joe Louis, my mum's new kitten, his mother is a stray and she left him at my mums and it took us 2 months before we touch him and now he has taken over, he is approx 5 months old (according to the vet, and will be desexed when his testicles are larger (he is very small for his age and slightly underdeveloped))

he adores my mum , hops on her lap for a cuddle every chance he gets

Oh, look at him!!! falls into a complete puddle of goo

He is completely adorable, LW, and he is obviously much loved! That little face is a picture of contentment, especially in that last one.

I am so very happy to hear of a forever home being found for a little stray! I wish your mum and him a very long life together full of love and kitty cuddles!

Oooh, Joe Louis is a sweetie, LW, and he looks so happy! I have a soft spot for tabbies, with those cute stripes...

I find it advantageous to have black cats, though, as most of my clothes are black so any hair shed onto me doesn't show up much.

Thank you for posting the pictures. I love the markings on him. And wish him a long and happy life with your Mum.
