Allen , you said a "certain amount of time" this just means a delay, not that it won't happen, just that it will takes a little longer.
Facebook is a good way to catch up with people, but like most things it is not "instant", things like accounts have to be processed and put through the system, you'll catch up with your friend.
Life moves so fast now days, sometimes delays are good ..they give us time to stop, take a deep breath and appreciate the wonderful world we now live in..
As for the term that was used even as an expression, yes it is both derogatory and Archaic and it is a pity that such a simple word used in my parents time as an expression of joy ,has been given such a hurtful meaning
