Hi, I am going crazy trying to work out a couple of Gatchaman eps my son is bugging me about. I have searched ep summaries and scanned through the eps I have downloaded but just cant work out what he is talking about!
The first one he is after is has mini fighter planes which make up the legs of the mecha and they only have 7 minutes battery life.
The other one has Tiny doing a dump and burn (no idea about this one but thats the only info I could get out of my 5 yo fighter jet crazed son!) to get away from a mecha they were losing a battle against.
Does anyone recognise either of these? I remember the first one but just cant find it, and have no idea about the second one!
lol if no one knows the answer I guess I wil just have to watch them all again from the beginning, ahah maybe I will anyway
The 'Jumbo Shakora' episode has a prawn-like mecha from which small aircraft launch. They have all the gas mileage of a Hummer, and have to return to the mecha.
I don't know of any fuel dump and burns except when Ken tries to burn out the Jigokillers.
However, there was an episode in which the SNT was getting their collective ass handed them by a mecha, and for once, the Firebird didn't work for them. (The title escapes me, and I'm too tired to look, right now.) The mecha came in hexagonal sections that could link in different configurations, and sprouted tentacles.
Both were made into BotP episodes: 'Peril of the Preying Mantis' and 'Attack of the Space Octopus.'

Thanks! I will check out that one. You have also answered another ep question I was puzzling over. My son also wanted to see the one with the tentacle monster and I couldn't work out what he meant but your extra info was a help! It sounds like the one where the team gets weapons in their individual vehicles.
It is funny his focus is always on the mecha or planes an mine at that age was more on the team interactions so I never can work out which episodes he talks about.
More info on the dump and burn one. Apparently they do it to pretend to crash so they can get away.
But your description reminds me of an eps where they "dump" garbage/fuel (something) into the ocean (they are underwater) to make it look like they were hit by a missile. But they go "silent" after the dump not "run." Or maybe this is something I made up.

Damn, I do recall them ditching garbage, but I can't recall the title. That's the one where the ADV folks made the Captain of the Week sound like a Cockney tweaker with a stutter. They included a briefcase that supposedly contained information on ISO operations (or something).
Another mecha with tentacles was a two-part episode. A definite squid mecha. Jun and Jinpei were captured in that one.
But unless your son is conflating some episodes or misunderstanding what he saw, there's no dump and burn.

Yes, there was an episode where they were being bombarded underwater and sent up junk and oil to make it look like they were destroyed. I remember writing up the review for that one, so it's an odd numbered episode. I just can't recall which one...
Ooh, checked my files... episode 49, I think.

Finally! We found the ep my son was after! It is episode 48 the shutterkiller episode. They jettison the fuel and pretend to crash when they cant escape.
I sat with him and went through every episode I had until we got it. He has a good memory as I had no idea what he was talking about. We also found the ice phoenix one (ep 22) he wanted yesterday. Now I just need to make a note of which ep is which with his name for it so I can find them again!
