At this time three weeks ago I was in the ICU of my local hospital.
Earlier that morning, Shawna, the lady who helps me get up in the mornings, found me feverish and drenched in sweat. I was in serious pain and had a little trouble speaking. She called for an ambulance and rushed me to the emergency room, afraid I might have had a mini-stroke.
Thankfully, I didn't have a stroke. However, the wounds I've been dealing with for the past few years have gone septic.
Nobody was talking amputation (WHEW!) But I spent a week trying to break a 102F fever and undergoing intense MRSA treatments.
And it looks like I'll be spending another 4-6 weeks getting IV antibiotics in a nursing home.

I got a nice surprise this afternoon: I was able to lift my leg enough to slide a standard-sized pillow under it!
Ever since I was in the ICU, my leg was very weak. For about a month I couldn't lift it at all. Then I was doing great to raise it an inch. And today, suddenly, I lifted my leg as an aide was about to put a pillow under my knee -- no strain or pain! I couldn't believe it!
Now I need a couple of wounds to heal enough so I can start sitting up on my own....
