Hon , not even the Greeks themselves, soccer team included, expected to WIN the Euro, let alone get through the first game of the tournament!

Reason why it became such an extraordinary , unprecedented event.

I congratulate the team, and their coach "King" Otto Rehhagel. and the hero's welcome they recieved when they got back to Greece. "Ancient Greece had 12 gods, modern Greece has 11" ...one tabloid reported..

Each of them has recieved over 3 MILLION euros , a mercedes each, a blessing and gold crosses from the archbiship, gold medals and keys to the city from the Prime Minister.. And there you have it..Greece's first ever "Superstars"...

Ive heard only of two cases so far, one in Aus, who placed a hundred dollar bet before the tournament started for Greece to win , as a joke really..and ended up with 12 and a half thousand dollars.

The other guy was from England..put up something like 25,000 Euro....and collected over 850,000 Euro!!

Ah it was fun to watch, jawdropping to see them win against strong top teams, and downright crazy to have witnessed and lived through the celebration and pandemonious revelry that occured afterwards.

I dont think the Olympics will come as close to the spontaneous eruption of sheer joy and partriotic pride that I had witnessed and lived through .

*Grins through the oozing Tzatziki ,bear hugging Kat, Elvin, Cep, Lyon, Merry and Fb smearing them with the stuff as well...*

There's the usual nonsensical Greek I usually ramble in ...then there are unprecendented, never to be repeated events that call for expressing oneself in
actual native tongue.
