Actually, it was more a matter of making enough to fill the preorders, and not much extra. So stores got what they preordered, but have little opportunity to order additional items once the preorder period is over. This allows both the manufacturer and the stores that carry the items to get exactly what they need without having to store a bunch of overstock than might never sell.
