Originally posted by lborgia88 I have a lot of closeups of Joe that I like -nearly all from later episodes in the first series (I think the artists were drawing him the best then) though I think a few are from Gatch II. I'm seeing a pattern -a lot of them are angsty/angry, but I think that's when there tended to be particularly detailed closeups of his face.
I agree LB--I like the depictions at the end of the first series the best, for the most part. I really like the first pic, and the next to last one that you posted. There's also a shot of Joe from the episode where he and Ken have that fight in the alleyway--there's a close up of Joe (scrapes and all--poor baby! LOL.) that I've always thought was well done.
TJ: I love that pic you posted of Ken/Joe "blended" together. I've not seen it before. Beautiful!
jublke: I think I know the Ken picture you're talking about too, but not sure what episode it's from....

By the way, that reminds me ... I'm throwing out a new theory that Joe is at least part Croatian. While at my grandma's funeral, I noticed that some of her people have eyes like his, ones that slant up at the corners. It doesn't look so unnatural on real people!
That's an interesting observation. I think a lot of Europeans are actually many mixed nationalities.

1) I love the theory of Joe being part Croatian. I've lived and worked in and on the Balkans, including Croatia, for a long time, so it's nice to think that Joe's ancestors come from there.
2) I love it that my avatar is among the favourites!
3) HOW DO YOU MAKE SCREENSHOTS? I've had this question for years, and finally I am voicing it!!!!!

You need to have a software program that does it for you. Unfortunately mine is out of date and doesn't run any longer. I'm on the lookout for a new one that is free, so if anyone has recommendations, please make them!
Oooooh! So many yummy screenshots of my two favourite characters all at once! I like Ken better (to tell the truth, all of the characters!) as drawn in the later stages/series but, alas, I don't have any good screenshots to share!

Nero Showtime will make screenshots. Not sure if it's included in current trial versions of Nero though...

TJ can you not use the "grab" software that come with Mac computers? I thought you would be able to freeze the video and then grab the selection or window? Or does it not work for video?
Can you tell I have never tried?

Grab works on everything *except* the DVD player. So you can use it on Youtube or websites, but not DVDs.

His name is Giorgio Asakura. Who knows who might be in the family tree on either side?
(OTOH, FemKatse has the same look. I wonder if the show's creators had decided on Joe's Galactor origins from the beginning?)

I don't know what to say. I thought that one of Gatchamania's bastions of knowledge would instinctively know how to do it without a program's assistance....I'm crushed. CRUSHED, I say!

The name Asakura implies to me an Asian ancestry, which can be a source of the slanted eyes. I'm not sure how many generations have to pass for the slant to no longer be dominate. I hadn't noticed Katse's eyes, since we don't see them very often, other than your avatar. You have a point.

I use Snipping Tool too for all my screencaps. It came as part of my computer's operating system (Windows 7). Nice thing, it can make a cap of anything and you can resize it so that you only "cap" the part of the screen that you want.
