Since my sight has gotten worse and probably get even more worse, I will havbe to start buying audio books, either download them or CDs, since I won't be able to my books, but the problem with listening to them on my iPod, is that I might get distracted by both the scenery and trying to remember to get off at my stop and listening to an exciting part of the audio book.
However, I do listen to my music when I am out and about to and from work, going to my parents or shopping.
I wouldn't mind buying a car like those in The Minority Report or I Robot films, where they can be drive themselves or you can drive them, as they are far cleaner and if you are using a phone, shaver, eating or anything else, you can just let the computer drive and if you are visually disabled, then you can do the same thing.

Like the one in The Mysterious Mechanized Jungle? While I can see your point, especially for those with visual challenges, those cars creep me out. But then again, I am a control freak behind the wheel and don't even use cruise control unless I'm planning on spending three hours on the same road with no traffic (In California, yea, right).

Here, here, Met! ITA with you! A car that drives itself would be a blessing to those with vision limitations. The technology is there - or at least starting to come along a bit more - but, unfortunately, it is going to be a while until driverless cars are deemed safe and for public consumption.
Books on tape are a great option for long drives or commutes. I've never used them for that purpose, but my sister has (she had an hour commute each way to her job) and she loved them. Most libraries carry books on tape/CD's nowadays. They also now have what are called "PlayAways" (kinda like an iPod or MP3 player with a book preloaded), or you can get downloadable audiobooks from your library's website.
Ok, sorry... Sometimes that Former Library-Person geekiness still comes out in me. I just need to beat it back into submission.
