I meant the Gatchaman (or BOTP) eps influenced the bionic dog idea.
Unlikely, since BotP didn't appear over here until after the Bionic Woman had finished airing, and I doubt any of the production staff on the series would have seen it in Japanese.
No, Universal was just extending the bionic concept as far as they could take it. Don't forget, they had a Bionic Boy as well.
Hmmmm, I don't remember there being a Bionic boy. I either must have missed that eps. or stopped watching the show at that time. Either that or it did not capture my interest for some reason and I have forgotten it.

I'm glad you guys all enjoyed the writeup! It does seem that BOTP made good use of creative editing here to show you that Ori9on was still alive.
And James, about the name difference... I recall in one of the ADV commentaries the Japanese translator was mentioning something about how the weird mecha names had strange jokes that really didn't translate, and sometimes they would have to just gloss over them. She specifically use a 'microwave' mecha name as an example. Possibly, it could have been this one.
