The movie is basically a remake of the 70's Omega Man movie and doesn't have the same ending as the book. It is probably better to see the movie without reading the book or else you will be very disappointed. Course I haven't read the book (yet) but the ending is very powerful from what I'm read about it.

I'm a fan of the Vincent Price's "Last Man on Earth" version of the story and even it doesn't get the ending right (at least according to what's in the book) but it is the closest so far.

When it comes to ghosts and such, I'm what I call a skeptical believer. I want to believe but I haven't been convinced yet and I've seen some weird sh*t in real life. These days I've been reading a lot about Japanese folklore and their ghost stories... that stuff is scary sh*t and pretty twisted in places.

Zombie movies give me nightmares but I still watch them... well, the good ones that is (they are few and far in between). For zombies, it isn't the idea of the dead coming "alive" or they will try to eat you... it is the idea of one bite and you're done for. The whole dehumanizing aspect of losing what makes you unique. You just become a shell of your former self - that scares me.

I don't know why I watch movies like that either when I get nightmares from them Sosai.

But then I'm an X-files fan as well, They haven't produced a series as good as that yet, so i don't watch most of the follow ons from it after a few eps...I hardly general watch TV at all except for the odd show that I like, and then I mostly watch a series on DVD if I really want to see it.

In "I am Legend" it was his isolation that struck me the most and how he was dealing with it...I was wondering myself how I would be if I was the only one left in a city like that.

I actually don't mind nightmares. Often when I do have them, I try to write them down because you never know when you'll get a good story idea from them. I have ideas written down that are over a decade old now. One of these days I'll use my idea of paper lanterns that contain deadly centipedes that burrow under one's skin. Bwahahaha. Wink

I really enjoyed X-Files for the first couple of years and then I found I lost interest. I will say that the episode, "Home" (Season 4, Episode 2) was one of the most disturbing episodes I have sever seen! I loved it. Smile

I will see this movie when it comes out on video. I have a feeling I will love the first half of the film but the cgi vampires don;t sound like my cup of tea - not because they are vampires but because I'm not convinced that the cgi works (at least from what I can tell from the clips I've seen - that's why I'm waiting to see it at home).

mmm I won't tell you what really happens in it Sosai, but I think you might have a few surprises in it.

I didn't know it was a book first, so I might look it up and read it. I don't compare books much to movies, only if they do a bad interpretation of a book I really like and cut to much of the plot out, then I just don't watch the movie again.

But I agree that the first few years of the X-files was the best part of the series. They just went to long with it, but I loved Fox Moulder and the poster he had on his wall, and Scully when she found him extreme in his ideas...

I found the movie to be rather interesting too, the thought of being alone in a world like that is interesting to say the least.

Well I won't go into detail, just that I liked it more then I thought I would.

I was never into the characters on X-Files but more for the stories. As the series progressed, the characters took a more central stage and I lost interest. Oh well. C'est la vie. Ahhh Sosai the X-files was always about the characters, especially Fox Mulders beliefs in Aliens and weird stuff, the investigations only enhanced his belief that we are not alone...No one believed him, not even his partner...Not all the crimes were resolved and strange Phenomena explained, which is more real to life, because not all mysteries are explained or understood...it just stood out from other boring serious cops shows/FBI that went over the same old thing...like CSI does...hehe(alright I'm not a fan...)

Nope they are yet to bring out a series again that catches this Swans eye...but I'm sure it's coming...

Thats why I liked the series so much! It was different from your average detective show.

I never saw X-Files as a purely detective show like other cops shows because of the weird mystery angle (like its inspiration, Kolchak: The Nighstalker). YMMV. I guess I didn't explain in my previous post I was talking about why *I* lost interest in the show. To me, the first series had the right balance between character and plot and later seasons just didn't do it for me. That's not an attack on the show - just an observation why it didn't work for me.

I agree about the need of interesting characters. I didn't mind CSI at first but quickly grew bored of it. CSI Miami didn't interest me at all (let alone the main character). Funny enough, I have been enjoying CSI: NY but I have always liked the actor Gary Sinise. Course that doesn't stop me from laughing at the show when they get some basic stuff wrong (ie, lets zoom in on a picture and get a crystal clear image of the killer in a tiny spot on the picture without any pixelation - ya, right). All the Law and Order shows bore me to tears as well. Wink

Edit: That's weird. When I put asterisks around the word me it comes out as my Username (* Sosai X*). I didn't know that would happen. Wink

It O.K sosai I didn't see your comments as an attack, I thought they got a bit off track towards the end of the series as well, it should have been ended three seasons before they concluded it.

But everyone get something different out of visual and written stories...those are the comments I look for, what a person got out of it.

When I read critiques who get paid to watch movies or read a book, and all they do is bitch, then i will read the book or see the movie because it must be good!!!

There a lot of series we don't get over here on TV, generally I see new ones on DVDs that I borrow from friends.

I'm so sick of commercial TV here, I mean at one point all you could virtually watch was CSI (thats why i got sick of it)or Law and Order, gimme a break!

But then I don't want to pay for cable TV....so I"ll stick to DVD's and downloads...

I get really sick of commercials and have been watching more of the older shows on DVD these days than commercial TV. I have a habit of watching a series and then losing interest in it as it progresses because it went into a direction that didn't interest me (same with comics - I don;t really buy comics these days except for the odd reprint).

There are a few current shows that I do enjoy but I usually watch them in reruns. The TV shows that I really enjoy watching are the nature, history, science shows (like Mythbusters, or NOVA on PBS for example). Give me a show about dinosaurs (or any prehistoric life), sharks, space, genetics, and so on and I'm hooked in front of the TV. Otherwise, I tend to put on cds or dvds and use them as background noise as I work on the computer.

With that all said, I will definately rent I AM LEGEND when it comes out on dvd. Smile

I forgot to mention that I saw a great over-the-top Australian zombie flick called UNDEAD. Lots of fun. *grin*

I like all the historical shows etc, but the ABC is just as good as the cable channels for that, so I do have tendency to watch the ABC (government owned) TV, it's much like the BBC.

If you want good Aussie movies then "The Dish", with Sam Neil is very good, full of Aussie humour though...some people don't understand our humour...*grins* it's a fav of mine...and it's a true story to a degree...

If only I knew you were interested in Dinosaurs!!! I could have picked your brain for the few chapters I did in Lightening when he was stuck around the Jurrasic age, I went online to read up about some Dinosaurs to keep as real as possible in it...Damn!

LOL! The movie was pretty bad in spots but so bad that it was good. Wink

I'm going tomorrow to the Royal Ontario Museum to see their newest dinosaur exhibit. I'm taking a friend and her 5 year son as well (my membership allows me to bring in 1 adult and up to 4 kids free as guests). At one time I thought of becoming a Paleontologist but I ended up studying Classic (Ancient Greek and Roman) Archaeology instead. LOL, what do I do for a living now... I'm a web designer. The classic period Aussie movies are generally the better ones, when we branch to far outside they go wrong...

As for the occult I definitely have an interest, I used to go to Wiccan circles back in the late '80's early '90's, but I'm pretty much a solitary practicer now.

I've watched all the shows mentioned...X-Files ...EL CHUPACABRA!!! That was one of my fav eps. Another one was with the green algae stuff that was growing on trees and then started attacking people...that one scared me.

Law & Order was another I watched. Pretty much any type of mystery/cop show I'll watch. I like A&E's Biography. Bones, House...reruns of 3rd Watch so I can oogle Bosco... Copper

I'll watch anything but the trash they call 'reality TV'...after the first couple Survivors and Big Brothers I lost interest. I only watch American Idol to see Simon Cowell rip the really pathetic contestants at the beginning..then I lose interest. I liked the Osbournes and Gene Simmon's Family Jewels..just to get a glimpse of the 'normal' family life.

But the Bachelors and the 'california spoiled brat' shows ...no thanks!

Oh Kimi there are some shows there that I like also.

I have seen every episode of xfiles, Bones is another favourite.

I too am not a big fan of reality shows, at first they were a novelty now I just find them annoying.

The biggest loser is the popular show at the moment here...but as I said I don't watch much TV.

I have to much to do...like play with the baby, sewing,writing fics, painting dolls(and I haven't done much of that of late.)

I only have time to watch the odd Gatch Ep during the day...

I have heard Bones is a good show...

I have watched 'Stargate' but mainly on DVD.

'Stargate' as I've said before is DH's fav show, so I have no choice but to watch...actually the movie was one of our first "date movies" at the theatre, that and 'Saving Private Ryan'. So of course 'Stargate Atlantis' is a must around here, FIL is into it too!

I wouldn't consider myself a Stargate fan but I have watched it. I watch Stargate Atlantis on a regular basis but I don't obsess over it. It is fun but disposable TV for me.

When people tell me that they watch Reality TV, I tell them that I do also. It's called the News. morerubbish

I never got into Bones. I did watch House on a regular basis but the show started to bore me. I still watch the odd episode but I'm not crazy about it (as I use to be).

I also enjoy the Canadian comedy, Corner Gas. It is a silly comedy with many quirky characters in a small town in Saskatchewan. I heard it will be showing in the US soon as it was sold to one of the major networks.

Mythbusters is one of my current fav shows. I'm a die hard Doctor Who fan but that's no secret. I enjoyed the first season of ROME but the second season fell flat for me.

Lately I've been watching a lot of Japanese movies and TV on dvd. Wow, there's some interesting stuff. I've been thinking of starting a thread to post my thoughts about the shows that no one has ever heard of. Wink
