I just got the entire Record of Lodoss Wars series! (And not the Chronicles of the Heroic Knight trash, either. It's the real deal!!) I finally get to see it!
I've seen the first episode of Saint Seiya. Laughed real hard when the guy chopped his own ear off. (Kind of weird, though. Especially when it was twitching the way it was. o.O)
Record of Lodoss Wars, btw, is outstanding. Loved every minute of it. Ashram rocks! ^_~
I've heard good things about Lodoss Wars, need to check it out myself.
I just put Anime Network onto my cable. (Like my bill isn't big enough as it is) Been working my way through some of those.
Kind of like a new one they have, Pretear. Not bad. Also have been following Wolf's Rain on Cartoon Network. Of course IMHO anything wolf is good.

Pretear is so cute! I have the first episode on dvd (came with a magazine) and some of the rest on the computer. Very cute, as is the manga.
Going to show Lodoss Wars again with my little brother. He's wanted to see it for half of eternity, and he's been particularly good, so... We're also going to watch the RK movie (sorta follows the tv series, supposedly, but it's still called Samurai X. Wish they'd make their minds up about what they're going to call it.) Hopefully it's good. Again, a *BIG* reccommendation for Lodoss Wars, the OAVs. Wonderful animation for its time, excellent music, and great fantasy. Wooh!
glad to see I am not the only one confused with the Kenshin movie titles

Not as far as I know. It was based off of an rpg-like set of novels and was in oav format first. There is a newer show that is sort of a next-generation spiel. It's called Record of Lodoss Wars: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight.
Tell me about it. I prefer to see the things as they were originally published. Prevents spoilers and confusion. For example, the Kenshin OAVs deal with Kenshin's past and were done after the tv show had run in Japan. The reason for this is because the show kind of uses his past as a subplot, being mysterious. Hence, watching the OAVs first would spoil some of the revealings in the series.
So which does the US put out first? The OAVs of course! O.o
Of course, in Record of Lodoss Wars' case, the tv series is quite a bit after the oav. Still better to watch the oav first, though. I will warn you that the OAV first episode throws you into the middle of the story. It goes to the beginning in the second episode. BUT it isn't confusing, I swear. It's really, really, good.
One of the biggest questions when writing is, when does the story start?
It often starts a generation before the book but the author has to choose a time and start.
And then, when she goes back to fill those details as her next offering, the story goes back yet another generation.
Yep, agree with reading in the order published -- it's easier to ignore small differences that way, and you can see the characters develop in the same order that the author does. And you don't have to worry about not knowing enough background -- if the background is important, it's in the first books written. And, it allows you to get the surprises and revelations in the order the author intended.

Great to see you're following Wolf's Rain! I have the series (but not the latest installments post series) and it's just fantastic. I can't stress enough how wonderful it is.
The ending was pretty bleh...hence the reason for post-series episodes, there's about 3 of them, so I can't wait to see those.
Kenshin the movie suprised me by being actually very good...I enjoyed the movie and the other OVAs compared with actual series so far.
I WANT to be taken awaaaayyyy.....

Hey Drive sweetie, pay attention to your avatars. Katse's is way cooler than mine. I am Stardust, who just happens to love the villain too.
However, how sad that Wolf's Rain is a disappointing ending. Cartoon Network moved it up to 12:30 on Saturday night here. So I am either out or have fallen asleep by then (it sucks getting old). But DVD may be the way to go. There's a place here in Long Island I can rent from.

Has anybody heard of something called Basara? An aquaintence is trying to get me to read it. I think its about some girl who dresses up like her dead twin brother and fights baddies.
