Actually, that is one of the more realistic scenes in this series. If you have a large number of people trying to leave an area through a handful of routes (if this were San Francisco, for example, you have one road north, 101, on road east, 80, and one, two, maybe three roads south: 1, 101, and I think it is 580, but I could be mistaken about that), public transportation would be limited and/or over-taxed, too.
I like the emergency shelters idea that the cartoon had, but that too is not realistic. Unless every building was given a bomb-proof basement/sub-basement designed to hold the buildings capacity which couldn't happen either, most places aren't equipped to deal with that.
