A new Gatchaman game...

Hello all!

Well, the new year has barely started, and already a new Gatchaman-related item has made an appearance, a new Gatchaman Pachislot machine!

The new game is being released by Taiyo, and is going to be released to Japanese Pachinko Parlors sometime in the next couple of months. Taiyo has set up their official site for the game at:

Right now it's not much to look at, but I'm sure that will be changing soon as they release more information regarding the game. Be warned, if you have a dial-up connection, it will take a while for the page to load.

For those who are unfamiliar with Pachislot machines, they are essentially slot machines, though these games usually have some sort of video game-style feature utilizing a monitor at the top of the machine, and the Gatchaman Pachislot machine appears to follow this pattern. With the second Gatchaman-themed Pachinko machine having come out just a few months ago, there's a good chance that competing Gatchaman machines will be in at least a few Pachinko Parlors when this game is released!

Anyway, it's something to keep an eye on.

Actually, in this instance, I saw a promotional pamphlet for the game on Yahoo! Japan Auctions, which led me to check the Taiyo website, where I found the link for the page they'd set up. Simple as that.

Hello all!

Well, as some of you noticed when you looked on the site for the Gatchaman Pachislot game, there was a section (Currently pending) for a Gatchaman Playstation 2 game. Despite not having placed any information about the game on the official site, a little information regarding it has come to light. First off, the game is titled "Pachislot King! Science Ninja Team Gatchaman," and is being produced by Banpresto. The game retails at 5,040 yen, and will be released in Japan on February 22nd.

I would guess that it is an adaptation of the Pachinko Parlor game, but so far I have found no images from the Playstation 2 game, so I can't be certain how faithful an adaptation it is. I have never dealt with Playstation 2, but if it's anything like the original Playstation, you may need to go through some extra steps in order to be able to play the game on a non-Japanese release Playstation 2 unit. Perhaps someone who is more familiar with the Playstation 2 can confirm this.

Anyway, I just figured you want to know!

No, no! not PS2!

It's the one game machine hubby doesn't have. (He spent ALL his Bday and Xmas money on Wii and XBox360, sigh. I'm being smarter -- using his toys and saving my own money for things that make selfish little me happy, like kitchen and office gadgets and lunches out, all by myself (unless I can get him to come along on days both kids are in school).

Pachislot / Pachinko on the PS2. Somewhat a waste of its powers (says me who uses the computer for solitaire).

Honestly, I'm a little surprised that they're wasting their time bringing it out for the PS2 and not doing a PS3 version instead. With PS3 now out, PS2 will fast become a dead format, so why not develop the game for the newer format?

Of course, this is typical of the luck this series has. The first Gatchaman video game was for the PC98 computer, a format that subsequently died. Gatchaman the Shooting came out for PS1 not long before it died. Now this game is doing the same with the PS2. At least Tatsunoko Fight had a bit of shelf life before the PS1 was retired.

Oh well, what can you do...?

I have a play station 2 but I don't know much about playing games from other countries... Still I may have to get it to try it out.

Although I do think it's kinda strange that it wasn't for 3, unless they feel that the game will have a short selling time, or intrest and most people still can't afford play station 3 (without going broke)

You may be right about the short selling period for the game. It probably won't be around too long, and that may be why they decided to go for PS2 instead of PS3, since there are more PS2 units out there than PS3 (At least for the moment). It also doesn't hurt that we're in that transitional period where game manufacturers still pretend that they're supporting the PS2, when all they're really doing is releasing the stuff that was in development so they can get their money back on it before they move onto their PS3 games.

Yes your quite right at the moment they will target both markets, so I would imagine a PS3 release would be in the pipeline.

If anyone sees an actual ordering site or number down the line then let me know. I will probably end up getting this one, and I can let others know if it plays on US playstation 2 units.

I will try to remember the 22 of Feb. , but sometimes I can get scatterbrained.

I did a little looking, and I have found an English-speaking site that has the game for preorder. The link to the listing for the game is:

From what little time I've had to check, it looks as though U.S. Playstation 2 units are unable to play Japanese Playstation 2 games, at least not without some sort of modification. I'm really not sure of the details.

I wouldn't bet on that, unless the game becomes wildly popular. Neither Gatchaman the Shooting nor Tatsunoko Fight ever had PS2 versions created for them. They were only available for the PS1. If they had done PS2 versions, well, I probably would have bought a PS2 unit!

Hello all!

I figured you'd like to know that Banpresto has launched their website for the Playstation 2 game that is based off of the upcoming Pachislot game from Taiyo. The website can be found at:

It has a few pictures from the game, showing that it will be pretty much a simulation of the Taiyo machine. As should be no surprise, the portion of the gameplay that takes part on the video monitor built into the machine looks to be the most interesting part.

Anyway, take a look at the Banpresto site and see what you think!
