Crazy or stupid?

Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh has a message for all the fools jumping out of windows into snow piles: Stop it. "I’m asking people to stop their nonsense right now," Walsh said at a press conference Tuesday, addressing the legions of people who have jumped out of windows — often dressed only in their underwear — and posted their conquests on social media using the hashtag #BostonBlizzardChallenge over the past three weeks.

When I was little I lived in upstate NY and I remember there was a blizzard on my birthday (mid-May). I grew up in FL, though, no snow there. Went to university in PA and remember spinning out on ice (decided immediately I wanted to live on a climate where that didn't happen). Married a guy in BC and have gotten used to what I (and many others) call "fwinter" ... mostly a long, grey, raining fall/winter. We've had the occasional very snowy and even icy winter but that's not too common here.

For about a month my allergies have been going insane as spring tries to spring here. (I get very itchy in my ears and at the top of my throat/back of my mouth.) The crocuses are out, too. I've been trying to be quiet about it so that the people in snowboundland don't murder me. Smile It is damp, though, and chilly!

I wouldn't murder you. In fact, one of the local weather guys commented on how the news people in Palm Beach have been doing winter weather remotes there -- the temperature there was a "Frigid 58" there. (Fahrenheit, of course.) Since there had been a lot of talk about how dangerous the wind chill is here, I was half-expecting to hear the Palm Beach folks say something like, "...And, at this temperature, frostbite will set in within 125,000 years!"

And sometimes I can just see littlewolf lounging around in her yard, sipping on one of those touristy drinks with a paper umbrella in it; a smile forming on her lips as she wonders if any of us will ever realize it's summer Down Under and start heading that way.

Just gotta take it in stride.

Alas with re having a weird summer down her, high temps one day, jumpers the next day, fluctuating humidity, almost cyclonic weather (high wind, beach erosion, down pours) flooding, we tough it out with our normal twisted Australian humor

alas fancy drinks with umbrellas in them belong to tourist and people with extra time on their hand at the moment

and the risk of sound a little gross - I would have to de-forest my legs and underarms first to be a cabana girl, the tourist would have to enjoy a little bit of "muffin top" around the hips and alas my freckles have not joined up to give me that all over tan I wanted as a child, so I would have to "fake tan" it

alas I could not see myself getting a lot of tips, unless it was from dirty twisted tourist who like their woman mature, and if someone did try and give me a little lips, I can see myself either walking away laughing or something that could get me fired.....though I can thing of some interesting things to do with their drink umbrellas and swizzle sticks..... probable best I stick to retail.. I know people will eventually leave my shops......

I'm sorry, I haven't been around for a while, but... is this really happening? I... oh God, I can't really wrap my head around this. It's like something out of a manga. (Actually, episode 29 of Axis Powers Hetalia, when the anthropomorphised Russia jumps out of a plane, saying he doesn't need a parachute because of all the snow beneath) It's really difficult to see something like this happening, and yet when it does - I kind of lose another sliver of my hope in this world.

I hate to break it to you, Victoria, but there are humans who choose to be severely stupid monkeys!

Although I must admit that I do feel sorry for the people of Boston -- they are on the verge of setting a new record for the amount of snowfall received in one winter. It's just too much for them to deal with.

Still, I don't see how a person could look at a snow bank that towers over their head and say, "I think I'll climb up to my roof, strip down to my underwear, and jump into that snowbank ... which I might not be able to get out of and might end up dying from exposure ...oh yeah, that's an AWESOME idea!"
