I can't stand them. And there's too many of these fucking people all over the internet. I can't take it. They piss me off to no end! I'm sick and tired of going to YouTube, or somewhere else and seeing somebody say something like "_____ sucks!" or "This sucks!" or anything along those lines as if it's a fact or something. And they always have to be so harsh too. Why is the internet filled with scumbags? Good thing none of those people are here at this place!

It's great when you get someone posting something on Facebook (and other places too of course) where they present something they've heard and follow it up ith "google it". I never saw one of those that I bothered to google myself that turned out to be true.

Society in general has allowed this. We decided that reasoned discussion was boring, and that debate should be treated as the dozens (at least, as white people understand the dozens). Extreme viewpoints get all the airtime because they're entertaining, which distorts what we think others believe.

And then there's the anonymous Internet, which brings out the douche in people. (And thanks to those fools, there are now proposals out to force people to use the same user ID on every website.)

What I hate are the people in a comments section who respond with one word insults and never explain their reasoning. Unless the original comment is so obviously wrong-headed that even the chronically wrong-headed wouldn't support it, writing 'fucktard' is no sort of response. Just say that you disagree and leave it at that, if you don't want to go into why.

Lol just had too, was too tempting!

I don't think someone saying something sucks means anything to be fair, a lot of people do it just to be antoganistic. others do it to be perfectly honest since they would probably never ever say such a thing in person. The Internet allows these people to be more honest about their feelings since there is no come back.

Others however do it just for the thrill of conflict.

Just my two cents worth, and we know what that counts for. Haha.

You definitely have to develop a bit a thick skin if you plan to keep posting things on the enternet. People have no filtering system when it comes to comments many times. Some do, if they are, or want to be friends, but many do not. Brutal, unthinking, honesty is often what you'll get.

I love my daughter's attitude about negativity online. Her first two YouTube posting both got "dislikes"--no comments though. Her comment to me was that they were just haters and weren't going to stop her.

Yeah, I've shed my tears over comments online, but I've, in the end, either used the constructive elements to better my posts, or I've finally put it down to their own insecurities and left it at that.

Fortunately, here, people are constructive and caring in their comments.

Aussies call it the "Tall Poppy Syndrom" some people feel the need to pull others down, there is not logical, clear of factual reason, other than it seem to justify some twisted mental pattern that they are running in their head

you can't win with these people, even when they are faced with logical and proven facts...in their head they are right ..a dogmatic beleif or pattern that they either will not face or cannot analyse....it is part of their identity, false or real it is who they are until they are willing to change it...

I , myself have done it .. (face to face only...I hope, sometimes I just don't want to loose, even if I am wrong) just get so stuck on something..even though I knew it was illogical...though... I don't think I have ever consciouly abused anyone elses effort to do something different or show the world who they are...they have more guts than me!

ps I figure if your don't like something and you are going to tell someone at least think of the reasons WHY first

I agree completely LW. Just posting a "this sucks" is useless, and personally I tend to ignore it. But writing a reason why you feel that way is much more helpful, that comment I will read.

You'd think they'd be more creative. "This sucks is so 90's" and F@&tard is very 2005. I think the new decade needs something more refreshing... something new with a bit zing to it...

I know it's already a few months since the last post in this thread, but I felt I needed to add my own two cents: I started blogging and answering to blogs last year, when a whole class of Greek people was being vilified online (by other Greeks, not foreigners). What I got for my trouble were flames and hate comments. I got very upset in the beginning, then decided to (a) stop bothering to comment on every blog post that I found insulting, (b) comment only on the more "intelligent" posts and (c) try to do something about the issue instead of blogging about it. Hope this helps, Allen Chatter

Flames will happen. Some sites do have policies to discourage them, some you are on your own. Having a way to deal with them is very helpful.

Me, for example, I roast marshmellows and make s'mores with them, and if I'm writing something that is risque enough that I expect them, I put that in my warnings and disclaimers. It's amazing that people who would do that, just stop if they know they won't get to you.

What frustrates me worse than flames are two-faced, backhanded compliments. The people that through in a dig or insult disguised as a compliment. It is usually done by people who know you better than flamers and in my opinion, they are lower than flamers. At least flames are useful for something .... S'mores anyone?

LOL! What a good idea! Since we don't have s'mores in Europe maybe I can use flames for heating up the mulled wine, now that winter has arrived! Drunk
