I find most disks are not readable by Macs. You have to look for the Mac symbol on the disk before buying any program otherwise as you say it is not mountable or readable. Then you have a piece of useless plastic hanging around.
That is the problem of owning the lesser used Mac over the PC's. Producers do not think about the smaller user only who the majority of their users will be.
I have made many a disk, sent to me in the mail, into a frisbee for my dog. It lasts about three throws before she breaks it up, of it hits a tree and smashes.
