Julie K. and I were discussing some fan fics we were working on and got into a discussion about Jason and his fate. Since BotP ended without a clear resolution of the war, what was going to happen to Jason?
G-Force Defector indicates Jason experienced a medical problem. Although a flash of blinding light from the sun reflecting on a street lamp causes him to lose control of his car and crash, no mention is made of any injuries received in the crash. Later, while on the fire escape, he experiences double vision and vertigo along with his numb hand. The only thing Jason states is that it’s starting again as he massages his hand. In Strike at Spectra, he suffers a concussion. They all know he was injured. It wasn’t something he could hide.
These two events are actually not related unless you want to believe the medical problem created the situation where Jason suffered the concussion.
I went back to Jason Hofius’ BotP book and looked at the episodes. It lists the order in which the episodes were supposed to be aired, which does not follow the Gatch order. G-Force Defector was episode 66 and Strike at Spectra episode 70. Could they really be related the way they were used in BotP?
Jason shows a bit of a temper at times in the episodes, but nothing extravagant. He’s no more difficult than Mark, who has his moments, too. He doesn’t appear to be on a destructive path. BotP gives no indication Jason was supposed to die, so why do some of us think he should?
Jason doesn’t appear to be as driven as Joe. We know absolutely nothing about Jason’s past, nothing about his parents. He isn’t seeking revenge as Joe did.
The team had to have been shown intelligence about Spectra as they were training in order to understand what they were going to face and why. After that, I feel Jason would have decided to do everything he could to stop Spectra because he didn’t want the Earth to be taken over. If that meant running himself into the ground, he might do it.
Would Jason keep any medical problems he was having a secret? Maybe. The episodes only mentioned his numb hand, which he never told anyone about. The episode indicates it happened before. Could it be dangerous? Yes. What if he needed to fire a missile and couldn’t?
I don’t think Jason would purposefully endanger his teammates. Himself, yes, but not his teammates. Jason didn’t argue with Mark in Strike at Spectra when he sent him back to the Phoenix. That shows maturity. He did hide things in Defector, but I would hope Jason would also be mature enough to tell someone if he was experiencing persistent medical problems that would endanger the team.
Joe was afraid they’d take him off the team if they knew how badly off he was. Jason never voiced that fear.
Other opinions?

Off course, my mother-in-law and daughter both suffer from the same problem to different degrees, and I've just learned today that my younger son may suffer them, too, complete with the blurry and loss vision. Sorry, but if you haven't figured out what I'm talking about, I recommend reading Cath's Battle AU, a very good set of stories which I wouldn't want to spoil. |

Amethyst, I'm sorry to hear members of your family suffer from migraines. I do, too, so I know what you're going through.
Catherine's AU is one of my favorite, but that creates another question. In Gatch, Ken suffers serious problems from using the sword. Catherine has Mark's implant malfunctioning so badly it leave his partially crippled. Is that a case of follwoing the Gatch story-line?

Ebony, yes, is possible to function for years with a benign brain tumor, depending upon size or location. Malignant tumors are a different story, as they usually grow more than benign tumors and can spread to other parts of the body.
Becky, when reading Cath's story I didn't get the impression that she was trying to parallel Gatch in any way, but then I haven't seen but a handfull of Gatch II episodes, and just the animation at that. What she seemed to be doing was expanding on the unknown, by creating in-depth backgrounds for the characters, and expanding on the story-line from the end. It is a true AU, as not everything is canon compliant, and what is, is tweaked.
Thank you both for thoughts on the kids; fortunately motrin or advil seem to work for both of them. My daughter has zero pain tolerance, and my son's is like mine and way to high.
