Wow. Forget military purposes. Think of the money they could get using it as a toy in the Harry Potter market. It would probably be on every kid's birthday/Christmas/Hanukkah/present list. Military weapon? Or really cool toy? Only time will tell.
I think it's so they can have really cool mobile phones that don't hide people's fancy earrings and hairdos.
People'd look pretty odd with invisible mobile phones though... all walking about with their hands stuck by the sides of their heads and talking to themselves. Or texting, all those little thumb movements would be really bizarre.
