I'm so glad to hear that you were able to still drive and get to your doctor's appointment safely, Jublke! It must have been terrifying for you to have one while driving!

I, too, suffer from ocular migraines and during the first one I had, I thought I was dying ... or losing my vision, which was an even more terrifying thought to me.

So I completely understand how you must have felt -- having your vision messed up like that is scary!

But to answer your question, nope, it's not weird at all that you can take comfort in being able to use this experience. The way I see it, as a writer, everything is fair game for stories!

jublke: It proves that you're a writer. Writers I know are always commenting about broken bones, etc., that now they can write them more accurately! So glad that you got to your appointment safely.

I know I brought this up before but I'll say it again for anyone who hasn't heard it ... If you're having this happen, be sure to get an eye exam that includes a pressure puff test. It sucked for Rob when he got his pigmentary glaucoma diagnosis but once he started getting it treated, his ocular migraines stopped, so he decided maybe it wasn't so bad. Heh.

Migraines of all kinds suck. Doctors thought my brother was getting intestinal migraines at one point!

Oh yeah, been there done that! Many, many times, Jublke. Not fun to deal with that in rush hour traffic! Glad that you are safe and sound.

Personally, I think they're brought on by eyestrain (like staring at a computer too long) combined with plain ol' stress (like regular migraines). Funny part for me is, that a lot of times I get the ocular migraines, is that I get it *without* the headache--and from what I recall it's not that uncommon for that to happen.

I have never had that happen with my migraines.

You might also want to get your glucose tested. That happened to my husband on his way home from work one da. It didn't last more than 20 or so minutes, but the next time it happened it didn't go away. Turned out he was diabetic and had the problem for a horrible six weeks. When diabetes attacks, if can affect your eyes horribly.

Ouch ... I'm so glad that you've come out of the experience safely, Julie! Having an episode whilst driving is really scary! I know the feeling ... there were times when I felt the need to stop the car somewhere! Another good thing is that you know why this has happened! I really hope that you're feeling better since then!

Regarding the writing ... yes ... it helps to be able to know what you're writing! And, together with your already existent awesome talent, and trying to look at such unfortunate episodes from a brighter side, this makes you an even greater writer!
