I'm under so much stress Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Report Post to a Moderator        IP Information Go to the top of this page

I feel like my body is being pulled in different directions like a child's toy. I've got so much on my mind. In one area, I have to make more space in my room, and I don't know how I should do it.

And in another area, the new medication I've started taking isn't helping me at all, and it's only made me worse. I don't know what's happening to me! I'm like lost in a sea of emotion. I don't know what to do with my life! I feel......I don't know what! Is this what they call a panic attack?!?! I feel so paranoid and stressed out and so many other uncomfortable feelings.

You need firstly to go see your doctor and tell him/her that you don't think that the medication is working and then tell your symptoms.

Don't sit there angsting, it's important that you actually DO something because only then can you start to be helped.

Allen, do not wait! Call first thing Monday morning. If you can't get in to see her, leave a message with your symptoms and ask if she can adjust your meds over the phone. Do not try to adjust them yourself. If things get before you can get a hold of her on Monday, call 911!

Allen... not that you did mention it in your first post, but please, do not play with your medication.

Reread Maddy's advice, what she's got it is perfect. You need to see your doctor ASAP - with things like this medication takes a while to kick in fully and needs to be adjusted, by a doctor, until it's spot on.

It does sound like you're having a panic attack, and as much as this is going to sound really lame - don't panic! Perfectly natural, lots of people go through them on a daily basis. The trick is to find what will get you out of it.

A walk maybe? Or a game? Even a book? Anything that will take your mind off how you feel right at this moment... Something you enjoy.

And, Allen, under no circumstances should you attempt to self-medicate with anything else. Stay away from all other drugs - unless prescribed - and alcohol, okay? Alcohol right now will do you absolutely no good and complete harm. It is not a pick me up - it is a depressant and you really do not need it.

Allen, please follow the others' advice and visit your doctor without losing any time!

If you're taking any anti-depressants, be careful! If they're increasing your moody feeling, and are making you feel more down, STOP taking them immediately! I'm talking from experience! If they're not compatible with you they'll make you feel worst instead of solving you the problem, hence the panic attacks! And, things can even become more uncontrollable! It's not your fault, but it's one of their side-effects that not everyone can be prone to! It's better to try and solve things alone, with your own inner strength, without their help!

There are lots of kinds of anti-depressants, and if they are causing a problem it's important to go back to the doctor, and the doctor can change you to a different kind if necessary. That would be better than just stopping taking them. Really, try to get to a doctor as soon in the week as you can rather than stopping straight away.

Does it say anything in your medications leaflet about panic attacks as a side effect? The leaflet is going to be more helpful about what you should do in that case than any of us are. Panic attacks are listed as a side effect of Zoloft, and probably will be on other antidepressants as well because they are just brand names for different manufacturers' versions of the same chemicals.

If the leaflet is not helpful, then you should be able to look it up here

See your doctor ASAP. Call, at least. When you describe your symptoms, be specific. The one that doesn't seem important could be the key to what's happening.

You can always say that evil forces zapped you with a calorie-retention ray.

(Meds do have unusual side effects. That's why you should speak your doctor ASAP. And why a lot people don't like the idea of taking them. Especially when it seems the side effects are as bad as the condition being treated.)

The weight side effect is easy to deal with--just need to be more aerobic. And your doctor may change your meds anyhow, if they're not working right. Sometimes it takes a few tries to find the one that is the perfect fit, and even then, it can take several weeks to work properly.

Even without your new meds, the holiday season generates stress, and a lot of people suffer indirectly from it. Just look at the New Year as a new beginning, and start afresh. Leave all the baggage you don't need to carry with you in 2010, and travel into 2011 with open arms.
