Gatchaman II Episode 1 in HD Subbed

I came to the conclusion that Sentai is likely not going to bring Gatchaman II to Bluray here in the states, and that made me sad. So, I bought the Japanese release of II on Bluray and decided I was going to find a way to use the subtitles from my copy of Sentai's DVD release and merge it with the video files from the Japanese Bluray release.

It was a lot harder than I anticipated. I guess the DVD’s use a file type for subtitles that’s image based instead of text based so I had problems getting them to show correctly aligned at a different size, but I did it! I now have Gatchaman II in HD with official English subtitles!



A few caveats:

The bluray comes pillar boxed so the subtitles stretch past the aspect ratio at times. Not a big deal, but it does bother me a little.

The end credits and next episode preview are flipped between the US DVD and Japanese bluray releases, so the subtitles during the end credits don't line up properly.

I suppose I could go in and edit each individual outro on the Japanese release to match the DVD version so the subtitle track would line up and recombine the video and subtitle tracks, but that's a lot of effort for what ultimately isn't a big deal for me personally.

Unfortunately, I don't have server space to put the series on a server to let folks DL it, but I can offer the first episode to DL from a dropbox link for a little bit so you can see how it went.
