LOL.... it's all bias, CD... basically, he's an arrogant bastard who beats up his own son and has no use for the rest of the team. Add to that an Eagle/Swan obsession and you can easily start blaming HIM (and the way he messed up Ken'semotional state/growth) for why Ken and Jun haven't gotten together. It all rolls on from there.... Big Grin

Okay, I get it.
Not sure you will like him by the end of my Universe then.
Although you may. Taken down by Mark, on many occasions, (Or perhaps I should say 'shown up' by Mark) and perhaps mellowing with age, and the return of his family.

You know, I think Red Impulse is the most hated on character in the Gatch Universe. Think about it.... People like Katse and Sosai X more than they like Red Impulse.... They Like Geru Sedora more than Red Impulse. Geru is never mentioned on the boards, but anytime Red Impulse is mentioned, it's mostly to hate on him....

I don't think I'm an RI hater, per se. Sure I think he was a terrible father, but I always looked at his character as the catalyst for (part of the reason) why Ken is the way he is and why he became the person he became. More an explanation than anything else... Y'know, one of those terrible influences on your life that you carry the scars of for the rest of your days... I think I view Nambu a little more unfavorably than I view RI, which you'll see if I ever finish any of my fics... The man was a horrible father figure and uses relationships as a means to an end... There's no real sense of family with him... A little hard-assed, if you ask me (ok, maybe more than a little). Someone who didn't really want the responsibility of raising 5 kids, but had to in order to have his plans come to fruition. So he views the team more as "objects" he can manipulate rather than kids/young adults he should be properly influencing to understand and be part of life. You'll see in my stories that I view him as someone who "puts up" with the teenagers because he had to, not because he wanted to.

Anyway, I digress. This was an RI bashing thread, wasn't it??? Wink1

Hmmm, interesting. Similar to how I feel about Cronus.
And I use the 'scars' Cronus leaves on Mark to strengthen Mark so that he is eventually able to take on Cronus and knock him down a few rungs. Kind of like the student surpassing the teacher and.

Anderson - Although, in my universe, Mark was raised by Anderson, from the age of 1. Mark never calls him Father or Dad. He is always Chief or Anderson. This is due to the cold relationship Mark had with Anderson. Not full of lies, but Mark is used by Anderson to gain what he wants, a fighting team. At least this is all Anderson shows Mark. Inside he does feel, as you can see in my last fic. And in the one(s) I am writing now.

That's interesting that you make those remarks of Nanbu Hakase. In my stories I portray him as a man with something to hide. He lies to the team, He is rash with them, and presumes to know how they are going to think and feel. I have a feeling that when DITH wraps up, Good ol' Hakase will get stuck holding the bag. (Not sure yet.... that's a loooooong way off!!)

I have tried in my Beginnings fics to portray him as something more. Ive always thought there was more to him than an absentee father. I guess knowing how much the japanese value family i found it hard to equate that there would not be a good reason for the two of them being seperate that was not translated too well to the BOTP series.

Likewise Hakase he may be all business but I have always had the sense of something more beneath.

Of course it could just be that I am just totally loonie

Yes I have a bit of that running through my stories. I have always had a feeling Nambu, or Anderson, does view them as his children. He is unable to express this feeling, of love or concern, or unable to show it.

Eeek. One of the reasons I could never stand Hakase it was his concrete indifference towards the kids. I always had the feeling he was exploiting them.

NO there was something there. I can not point to specific instances at this time Amy, but there where times you could se the concern in his posture or in a phrase he said, maybe after they were out the door. But it was shown.
