It's funny that a year ago I was all about Mark, and then Ken once I learned about gatch - but now I can see the possibilities with Joe and realize that I have made room in my heart for both too.

But like Springie, I will always be a sucker for the blue eyes and mussed up hair. he will always be my number one boyfriend.

I love the blue'd dark hair combination. I must because my DH has blue eyes and dark hair and thats what I noticed first about him...them the cute dimpled smile... tall with broad shoulders.... I was only 16...and you know when a girl meets her Eagle.... teen love.

I wonder if thats why I keep liking the Swan Eagle combination more. Even though I can understand why some love the Condor/Swan.

I have had a crush on both myself. They both have their own appeals don't they. Infinity

The Condor! That bad boy attitude he has makes me swoon. From a teen POV, if Ken and Joe would drop in a highschool, Joe would be the most wanted boyfriend, while Kenny would be the nerd.

And Joe's more manly!
Amy likes rugged handsome and aquiline nosed Condor better than puppy eyed Eagle!!

Ken just looked too much like Speed Racer and I never cared for that show or character. Joe was unique and not afraid to disagree with someone. In BotP Mark seldom disagreed with authority, while Jason challenged it. Now watching Gatchaman, I see the same things in those characters, but with more depth and growth (especially for Ken).

First, I want to say I love Rory's picture of Mark.

When I first started watchingh BotP on 1978, I liked Mark and immediately began to write fanfics as Mark's younger sister. Of course, she was head over heels for Jason.

Jason seemed to me to be a loner, but I didn't think it was by choice. I was a loner and related to him the most.

When I finally got to watch Gatchaman, I didn't care for Joe as much as Jason. Joe was more harsh, angrier. I've stayed a Jason girl.

Hi Becky! Good to see another Condor here.

I'm impressed that you started writing fics when you were that young -do you still have any of them?

Jason was my favourite too, but I've come to like Joe better, in part because of the whole drama of his story arc in Gatchaman (remembering his parent's death, realizing they were in Galactor, developing his neurological problems, running off to Karakoram with 10 days to live...) which, aside from some of the health issues, Jason didn't get.

Looking at the poll the two run in very close together, almost even!

I'm a little late getting into this. I'm still navitaging all the mesages.

I started out liking Mark because he was in command, telling other people what to do. I'm next to the youngest of five and was thoroughly sick of being low girl on the totum pole.

Then I started writing fics and originally threw myself in there as Mark's little sister - in these fics he never told her what to do. But, my character had a mind of her own and gravitated towards Jason, which drove my Mark character crazy.

From that time on, I've been Jason all the way.

This is what I get for not looking at the last page - I totally forgot I'd already addressed it. Silly

Sadly, Ib, no. I was 14-15 when I wrote them and one of my older brothers got ahold of them and teased me relentlessly for being interested in a 'cartoon' character. I was so embarrassed I threw them all out.

Guess that makes me a Mary Sue?

Has anyone else out there thrown themselves into a fic as the love interest of our heroes?

Yes and no. When I was 8-12 and watching BOTP I had very detailed fantasies of Mark and Jason fighting over my 'company', but the winner never got any more than a kiss. Wink

I did write *slightly* racier Mary Sue fics (and actually written down, unlike those earlier ones) when I was 16 about me and Duran Duran... but well, those are just embarrassing. Blushing

I didn't like to look at Duran Duran, but I've always liked their music.

I also have to say I like Jason's uniform colors better than Mark's. I always thought as Ninja's, they'd want to be in colors that aren't flashy.

I never wrote myself into a fic...but I've sure had my share of dreams and fantasies... Inluv2

As I've heard TJ say before, Princess was my Mary Sue when I was 8...I wanted to *be* her...and of course, I always wanted Mark to follow through on his flirtatious comments and kiss her!!!

Writing, no. But I did do a lot of pretend play; and some of it went against canon. I had a cousin a year younger than me who was into it and she created a character for herself that stole Mark away from Princess. So when we played I was Princess and got Jason (whom I like better than Mark).

Of course, it does make since in the matter of our personalities. As she was going gaga over Duran Duran I was driving everyone around me crazy with Def Leppard, Quiet Riot, and Van Halen.

When Battle of the Planets aired, 1978-79, my older brother and sister gave me a lot of grief (and often changed the channel on me) because they didn't like the show -the idiots! I think that's one reason why, decades later, I was determined to acquire and watch every one of ADV's Gatch volumes -because this time, no one could stop me from doing it!

Actually, the closest thing I have to a "ship" is Joe/Me, but I swear I'll never write that! Laugh2 I daydream about it, though...

Posted by gatchgirl on 28-09-2009 at 20:16:

I had a few Mary Sue rolls in my early fics, but I was never as comfortable as writing my B/F in her own Mary Sue. She was much more outgoing then I with boys, so it fit a lot better. I was more of a supporting character, while her character had the two main men (brothers) battling over her. I had such fun writing that story with her, and yes I still have tons of it left. A good portion was spoken between the two of us.... except for the ending, which I was a naughty mean writer then... MUWAWAWAWAWA

In high school, I even went by dreamin space kitty, and I'd create fics that people could tell me their scenarios and I'd take the info and turn it into a fic... I was a total geek back then (heck I still am) but I did have fun.

I never have written fics regarding my favorite characters or Gatchaman when I was young ... in fact, I'm trying to write a Gatch one now but it's so hard to find time to do it! I also had a bossy brother who bullied me often and always stole books and other things from me, thus I was always cautious as to what I left around, especially written and personal material. I did a lot of pretend play though, especially at the end of series when a sequel was needed! I'm a bit embarrassed but, I don't know why, I always impersonated Ken (as my favorite character in Gatchaman and as I didn't watch BOTP) and ended up with a happy ending for his and Jun's relationship! (for anyone who is asking why I impersonated a male I can confirm that I'm 100% female and I love my femmininity, though being a male has surely many advantages!)Blushing

Don't Worry Gatchamarie. I did/do the exact same thing, only for me it was Mark who I roll played and developed as a character. My Mary Sue is - I am the Swan and his relationship is with me.

And I too was cautions about leaving written material around although I had to learn my lesson while in High School, where my peers found a story I wrote and read it out to the rest of the class. From then on I never wrote again. (I should say from then until about 3 years ago when a few on this board poked me into beginning again.)
