Student teacher?
Nahhhh.. been there, done that. My status has now been elevated back to a 'Volunteer'.
Let me put this into context. In the terms of a food-chain. Student teacher is probably in the lowest level, as they have to pay to be there, still have to do all the work, and have to be careful not to step on the toes of the associate teacher. Right, CD?
The volunteer has higher status than that, as they are not paid and do not pay to be there, and do not depend on the classroom teacher for a grade (however, sometimes they depend on the classroom teacher for a reference letter and hugely for the privilege to be there), they enjoy benefits such as flexible hours.
The supply teacher gets paid by the board, however, normally got trashed by the kids and got stuffed duty everywhere they land in. So, I would say that they are in a pretty pathetic position as well.
All that being said, if you persevere and be a good boy/girl and get to the wonderful place where you can get your own classroom. Then, at least you are in a better position than all the afore-mentioned. However, you would be under immense pressure from both the administrators, the board and the parents.
Ummm.. OK.. so .. eh.. what have I got myself into?
Bwahhhwahhh.. and of course I managed to stray completely off-topic again ala Yuki style.
Oh oh.. yes Kimi.. I am using the volunteering exp on my resume. And again thanks to CD for letting volunteer in her wonderful class.
