I noticed that Joe was being taken into the ISO in handcuffs in one of the pics, while the rest of the team walked separately, so I am wondering if they plan on introducing Joe to the team after it has already formed.
...And this 'shipper is hoping for a few little hints at a budding romance...puppy love, at least? |

I would like to see Ryu's head become more proportional to his body than in this shot. I hope they don't kill Joe off. I really liked the God Phoenix design used in the OAV, especially the way the wings reconfigured as needed.
I'm trying to figure out why Joe's in handcuffs. Does anyone know where that came from or where it was going?

I personally don't know, Becky! I don't want to think that Joe could have been an outsider to the Team ... I would like the producers to abide with the original Gatchaman and keep the fraternal and family aspect alive (that is the ties that bind the Team together) and not depict them as strangers! I would like to think that, maybe, Joe had run off hotheadedly somewhere and they had to use hard measures in order to bring him back! But, I also think that it's useless trying to figure things out as I'm quite certain that all the plot and the work that has already been done will be changed if ever the movie will come out!

That is exactly my thought as well Gatchamarie! And now with the latest news in the other thread last week, my hopes are dwindling even more that we will ever see the film made.

Not that it matters (because it's likely all going to change if it ever does see the light of day) but Joe was in handcuffs because he was a prisoner/criminal. He was offered a position on the SNT, and that is how he joins them.
I can't recall the link, but someone posted a blog of what the first draft storyline was going to be for the movie, back when Kevin Munroe was still on the project. I'll look for it...
Here it is:

Thanks for the refreshing link, TJ! Well, there seems to be little abiding with the original Gatchaman there! Hope that if things were to change they'll change for good!
CD, the same thing happened to me! I've almost lost all hopes!

Thanks TJ. Joe, a common criminal. The nerve.

That allows them to advertise the birth of a hero and all that sort of guff. Instead of an ensemble, it becomes about the redemption of one character. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but not when the source material doesn't support it.
But that seems to be the trend these days. One in the spotlight, the rest as supporting cast. (Take a look at the 'Mission: Impossible' movies.)

WTF? Since when was Joe a common criminal? Why do certain people in Hollywood just like to change the source material from what it originally was? As if the bastardization the Wachowski Brothers did of Speed Racer wasn't enough. Now this! Oh boy, I have mixed feelings about the film now.

While I certainly agree that what information regarding the plot for the film that had leaked out sounds uninspired and unoriginal, we do need to keep in mind that everything that had been done for the film is now on the scrap heap as we wait for the announcement of a new Director and Writer to come from Imagi -- assuming such a day ever comes.
We can hope that, when and if that happens, the new staff will consist of people who will take the time to familarize themselves with the series and have enough respect for the source material to not make changes for the sake of making changes and won't try to fix what isn't broken.

Who says Joe has to be a COMMON criminal? He could have been .... the son of an arms dealer - out to make Dad's life hard(er). Or .... the son of Galactor agents who would work in the underworld before showing their full might to the world.
You know that could work, if you could find a dissatisfied child from Galactor to help you get to know the organization from the inside ..... *Down plot bunnies! down! *
James is correct though, this story line is gone, I suspect for good, unless the new director decides they like what has been drawn up.

I could see working the original story into it.
Joe survived his parents murder and vowed revenge. He gets his revenge by stealing weapons from Galactor to give to Freedom Fighters who are already fighting Galactor. Its only when Galactor ups the stakes and adds mechs to their arsenal Gatahcman comes into being.
I know everything is currently six feet deep, but we can still hope and speculate.

Hopefully the soundtrack won't just be a bunch of Nu Metal and stuff.
